Lakeland Remains Undefeated with Decisive 55-25 Win Over Riverside

From the beginning, it looked like it was going to be long Saturday afternoon for Riverside head coach Harry Armstrong. The Vikings bobbled the opening kickoff  which was recovered by Lakeland in Viking territory. The Chiefs went on a  warpath and four downs later RB Giovanni Spataro ran 8 yards for the Chiefs first touchdown. The Chiefs went for a successful two point conversion and took the lead 8-0 with 10:24 remaining in the first quarter.

 

The upset minded Vikings, shot back with a 9 yard touchdown pass from QB Johnny Gilchrist to freshman Reese Gaughan. The Vikings attempted to tie the score with a 2 point conversion, but failed and it was 8-6 Chiefs midway through the first quarter.

 

The Chiefs added another score before the quarter ended when QB  Dominico (Nico) Spataro hit (the Maryland commit ) TE CJ Dippre for 50 yard touchdown pass. The extra point was blocked and Lakeland lead 14-6 in the last score of the first quarter.

 

The second quarter the Chiefs were in cruise control scoring three more touchdowns, extending their lead 35-6. The spirited Vikings scored one more touchdown with 1:38 left in the half. The Vikings went into their locker room trailing 35-12.

 

After six minutes of good defensive plays from both sides, the Chiefs struck again when  QB Dominico Spataro  connected with WR Mike PIdgeon for a 41 yard touchdown. The Chiefs lead 42-12 with 6:36 remaining in the third quarter. The Chiefs continued on a rampage when TE CJ Dippre proved why he is one of Pennsylvania’s top recruits when he caught a 24 yard touchdown pass from the QB Spataro. 49-12 Lakeland.

 

Riverside undeterred would score again with only five seconds left in the third quarter to lessen the rout. 49-19 Chiefs.  The undefeated Chiefs would add salt to the wound with still another score in the fourth quarter, sending the demoralized Vikes  into the locker room with a final score of 55-25 in favor of Lakeland.  

 

Lakeland (3-0) will play host to Dunmore (2-1) while Riverside (1-5) will host Mid Valley
