Surprising Results for the Wyoming Valley Conference

Last week was a much better week weather than in Week 1. However, there were quite some unexpected results in last week’s contests. Berwick beating Crestwood was quite the surprise and the fact that only one offensive touchdown was scored between both teams. Lake-Lehman and Nanticoke being scoreless til the 4th was very surprising as well. The most surprising was Wilkes-Barre Area coming within a point of tying or beating Wyoming Area but came up short. With the increase of classifications, an 0-2 record isn’t the worst thing in the world but it can definitely determine your seeding at the end of the year. With all that being said, let’s get into the games.

Mifflin County at Williamsport

Friday 7 PM

Mifflin County is coming off a loss to Hollidaysburg. Williamsport is coming off a loss to Altoona. Huskies Junior receiver Josiah Sechler has three catches for 57 yards. Millionaires QB Frankie Morrone threw for 221 yards in the loss. The Millionaires look to rebound in their home opener.

Prediction: Williamsport 28 Mifflin County 14

Holy Cross at Hanover Area

Friday 7 PM

Holy Cross is coming off a loss to Carbondale. Hanover Area is coming off a victory over Susquehanna. Crusaders RB Logan Tierney is rushing for 303 yards and three touchdowns. Hawkeyes QB Christian Torres has thrown for 197 yards and four touchdowns. Both teams are 1-1. Holy Cross is locked into the District title in Single-A but the Hawkeyes may need a few more wins to seal their playoff spot.

Prediction: Hanover Area 28 Holy Cross 21

Holy Redeemer at Milton

Friday 7 PM

Holy Redeemer is coming off a loss to Mid Valley. Milton is coming off a victory over Warrior Run. Royals senior Justice Shoats caught three passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns last week. Panthers RB Chris Doyle ran for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Milton has its best start to the season since 2000. The Royals are looking for their first win of the year.

Prediction: Milton 35 Holy Redeemer 14

Hazleton Area at Berwick

Friday 7 PM

Hazleton Area is coming off a loss to Harrisburg. Berwick is coming off a big win at home over Crestwood. Cougars wideout Connor Shamany has 10 catches for 179 yards. Bulldogs defensive back Spencer Kishbaugh returned an interception for a touchdown in the win last week. The Cougars are looking for their first win of the season. The Bulldogs are looking to build on their big win over Crestwood.

Prediction: Berwick 28 Hazleton Area 21

Nanticoke at Wyoming Area

Friday 7 PM

Nanticoke is coming off a loss to Lake-Lehman. Wyoming Area is coming off a close victory over Wilkes-Barre Area. The Trojans Payton Kepp has 121 yards rushing on the season. Warriors RB Nico Sciandra rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown. He also caught a 14 yard touchdown pass last week. The Trojans had a tough loss last week and this is the tail end of their brutal three game stretch. The Warriors are looking to stay undefeated with a home victory.

Prediction: Wyoming Area 42 Nanticoke 7

Valley West at Pittston Area

Friday 7 PM

Valley West is coming off an overtime loss to Dallas. Pittston Area is coming off a loss to Tunkhannock. Spartans QB Luke Buss is throwing for 110 yards and two touchdowns on the year. Patriots QB Drew DeLucca has thrown for 222 yards and two touchdowns on the early season. The Spartans are looking to get back in the win column after the tough loss on Friday night. The Patriots are looking for their first win since 2019.

Prediction: Valley West 42 Pittston Area 7

Wilkes-Barre Area at Dallas

Friday 7 PM

Wilkes-Barre Area is coming off a tough loss to Wyoming Area. Dallas is coming off an overtime win over Valley West. Wolf Pack DL Ian Bednar returned an interception for a touchdown last week. Dallas wideout Joe Peters has nine catches for 115 yards and a touchdown. Both teams are currently 1-1 and it’s looking like one of the best games in the WVC this week.

Prediction: Dallas 28 Wilkes-Barre Area 21

Crestwood at Tunkhannock

Friday 7 PM

Crestwood is coming off a loss to Berwick on the road. Tunkhannock is coming off a win over Pittston Area. The Comets Brendan Dennis returned a fumble for a touchdown in their loss last week. Tigers RB Ty Konen is rushing for 149 yards and two touchdowns. He also has three catches for 82 yards and a touchdown. The Comets are off to a surprising 0-2 start and look to rebound. The Tigers at 1-1 are looking to improve on their record.

Prediction: Crestwood 21 Tunkhannock 14

Lake-Lehman at Dunmore

Friday 7 PM

Lake-Lehman is coming off a shutout victory over Nanticoke. Dunmore is coming off a loss to Old Forge. Black Knights RB Colby Roberts is rushing for 124 yards and two touchdowns on the season. Bucks RB Daniel Pigga is rushing for 54 yards and a touchdown. He also has two catches for six yards. The Black Knights are looking to get above .500. The Bucks are a surprising 0-2 to start the year but will they rebound for their first win of the year?

Prediction: Lake-Lehman 28 Dunmore 21
