Valley View Cougars repeat win over Berwick Dawgs

I don’t really know if there is any need to write an article on this game. You might as well read the article on the last time Berwick played Valley View, just change a few numbers and you have it. With all the penalties Berwick had in the last few games I feared they would repeat in this game and the score wouldn’t even be close. But I was hopeful that they would clean up their game, not make poor mistakes, and pull out a win.

With Berwick winning the coin toss, they deferred to the 2nd half. The 1st quarter was a battle on both sides. They all fought hard for each play, each yard gained. A lot of returning the ball to the other team and the quarter ended scoreless. The 2nd quarter was a different story, with the Cougars not able to score they return the ball to the Dawgs and the first play Ryan Laubach runs it 73 yards and is taken down 2 yards shy of scoring. The following play Tegan Wilk got to the endzone. With the extra point the score is 7-0 just 15 seconds into the quarter. The Cougars burn 7:42 off the clock using 15 plays to follow up and put 7 on the board as well. Then with 1:22 left in the half Berwick fumbled and Valley View recovered. The clock ran out ending with the half tied at 7.

The 3rd quarter had its fair share of excitement. With the Dawgs receiving at the start of the 2nd half, they get the ball to the 36 on the kick. The very next play Ryan Laubach runs it 64 yards and scores. The extra point was a fail when it hits the upright making it 13-6. All season the Dawgs have not given up any third quarter points with the exception to the Cougars the last time they played them. Not this time though, they were able to keep them from scoring in the 3rd, making the score at the end of the quarter 13-6. The 4th, on the other hand, was a different story. This is when the Dawgs started making a lot of foolish mistakes and as a result were giving the Cougars a lot of free yards. Then with 8:45 left Cougars have just inches from the goal line and Janassah Boone dives in for 6, with the extra point being good the score is now 14-13 in the Cougars favor. In the next 3 minutes Berwick is not able to put any points on the board giving the ball back with just over 5 minutes left in the game. Valley View takes advantage and manages to burn the remaining time off the clock ending the game with a score of 14-13.

The journey for the Dawgs came to an end on the 8th of November, but they have a strong team, and as long as they are able to pull in the errors next year they could take it all the way. Valley View moves on and will face Dallas again.
