| September 10, 2015

Here is a list of some games to watch in Week 2 in Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 11 & 12

DISTRICT 1/12

North Penn (0-1) at West Catholic (1-0)
(2014 Result: North Penn 19-16 OT)
The Burrs got off to a good start on their quest to get back on top of Class AA in both the Catholic League and the state. West Catholic took care of 4A Roman Catholic  35-16. The defense got this started off on the right foot with the first score coming on Jameer Bryson 68-yard interception return for a touchdown to start the team’s scoring. Calil Wortham rushed for 83 yards including a 45-yard touchdown. The schedule makers have not done North Penn any favors. They started off the season with a 24-12 loss to No. 7 LaSalle College HS. The Knights turned the ball over three times and gave up big plays on third down. Coach Dick Beck will have his team desperate to avoid an 0-2 start.

Pennsbury (1-0) at LaSalle College HS (1-0)
(2014 Result: DNP)
LaSalle will try to take care of business against a District 1 foe for the second straight week. Winston Eubanks had a big night hooking up with QB Chris Ferguson for a 60-yd TD pass on the last play of the first half and then returning a kickoff 90-yards to put the game away. Not a lot of people had the Explorers in the state championship talk so they are playing with a chip on their shoulder. Pennsbury’s defense was very good in Week 1 with two goal line stands to knock off Council Rock South. The Falcons will need more offense to upset LaSalle on Friday.

Springfield-Montco (1-0) at Lansdale Catholic (1-0)
(2014 Result: Springfield 29-7)
Springfield was excellent in Week 1 with running all over Lower Moreland with their Wing-T offense. Ben Fisher broke a 70-yard run using pure speed. The Spartans look like the team to beat in Class AA in District 1. Lansdale Catholic is led by Ryan Quigley who returned an interception for a touchdown and rushed for 140 yards in a win over William Penn Charter. The Crusaders did a good job pressuring the quarterback, but that will not be the focus on Friday. Springfield ran all over Lansdale last year.  The Crusaders have to find a way to stop that.

DISTRICT 2
Wallenpaupack (1-0) at Dallas (1-0)

(2014 Result: Dallas 32-24)
Both these teams were considered dark horses for the D2 Class AAA playoffs but after Week 1, they are now legit contenders. Rutgers recruit Rashawn Battle ran for four touchdowns for the Buckhorns as they won easily over rival Honesdale. Dallas beat Scranton for the second straight season in a defensive battle 13-7. New Mountaineers coach Rich Mannello, former Kings College coach, got his first victory in his first high school game. The quarterbacks will be key in this game. Matt Harrison of Dallas is a playmaker while newcomer Gavin Hiller was impressive in his varsity debut last week.

DISTRICT 3
Central Dauphin (1-0) at Susquehanna Twp. (1-0)
(2014 Result: Central Dauphin 52-24)
Susquehanna remembers this game from last season. The Indians started out 2015 on the right note taking apart Conrad Weiser 42-17. They held the Scouts to 9 yards rushing after giving up over 400 last season. Ben Moser threw four touchdowns for Susquehanna.  They get the Rams at home this time around, but it won’t be easy.  Central Dauphin is ranked No. 8 in 4A for a reason. RB Raleigh Sirb rushed for 134 yards and two long touchdowns in Week 1. Also, the Rams defense will get back preseason PFN All-State defensive end Micah Parsons who was suspended Week 1.

Hempfield (1-0) at Manheim Central (1-0)
(2014 Result: Hempfield 22-14)
The Black Knights rushed for over 500 yards in a Week 1 win over Lampeter-Strasburg. Hempfield exploded in the third quarter to break open a tied game. RB Will Blair led the way for the Black Knights running for 220 yards and three touchdowns. The defense did a good job against Pioneers’ QB Collin ‘Bear’ Shank. Manheim Central had an easy time with Warwick. RB Damon Camacho ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns for the Barons. This game will come down to who does a better job stopping the opposing running game.

West York (0-1)  at Dallastown (1-0)
(2014 Result: Dallastown 21-20)
Hopefully, the fans will get another great game like last year. Dallastown is coming off a shaky start to their season, but turned it around in the second half to defeat Lancaster Catholic 26-14. West York rallied against Central York with two fourth quarter touchdowns only to lost to their rival in the last minute. The run game is strong for both teams, but a big pass play might be the deciding factor in this one.

DISTRICT 4
Montoursville (1-0) at Lewisburg (1-0)
(2014 Results: Lewisburg 19-10; Montoursville 34-6)
Class AA in District 4 is as competitive as any classification in the state. We will get a ton of good matchups and this is one to circle on the schedule. After a slow start to 2014, Brycen Mussina led the Warriors to the district championship and a state playoff appearance including a playoff win over the Green Dragons. He is back and one of the better small school quarterbacks in PA. Montoursville had little trouble last week with South Williamsport and between Mussina and star tailback Keith Batkowski, the Warriors are the team to beat in District 4. Lewisburg also had an easy time with Shikellamy last week winning  38-14.  The strength of the Green Dragons is their defense led by Dominic Farronato and Trey Delbaugh.

DISTRICT 11
Northern Lehigh (1-0) at Saucon Valley (1-0)
(2014 Results: Saucon Valley 35-6)
Saucon Valley is trying to get back to the Class AAA championship game while Northern Lehigh want to make a mark on Class AA. Yes, the Panthers are a decisive favorite over the Bulldogs, but Cameron Kates and CJ Young will make it tough on Saucon Valley. Keep an eye on Evan Culver, one of the better running backs in District 11
