Thursday night at Wilkes-Barre Memorial Stadium, QB Kam Taylor carved out a nail-biting 35-28 victory over the Tunkhannock Tigers. From the opening kickoff the senior QB took control of his team, both running and passing before surrendering the ball to the Tigers. The Tigers had little luck on their first possession and had to punt without getting a first down.

It was after the punt that the crowd saw the trailer of what was to be one of the best games in the Wyoming Valley Conference this season. On the second play of the second drive QB Kam Taylor hit WR Javant McClary with a 70 yard touchdown pass. The extra point was good. The Wolfpack took an early lead 7-0 with 9:40 remaining in the first quarter. With momentum behind the Wolfpack, mission minded QB Kam Taylor hit WR Maleek Robinson with his second touchdown pass of the evening with only 33 seconds left in the quarter. The extra point was good and the Wolfpack extended their lead 14-0.

Tunkhannock QB Jack Chilson was determined to match the play of the Wolfpacks Taylor and drove the tigers down to the six-yard line, then finished the drive on fourth down with a six yard touchdown pass to WR Riley Jones making it a one score game with 8 minutes left in the first half. With only 30 seconds remaining in the first half Wilke-Barre kicker Deutsch-Jones attempted a 37 yard field-goal that faded to the left of the uprights. The Tigers took over with 18 seconds left on the clock and Chilson took a knee keeping the score 14-7 Wilkes-Barre at the half.

The third quarter opened with fireworks. Tunkhannock took the opening kickoff and three plays later saw Chilson throw his second touchdown pass of the evening to Jhamal Zacharias from 9 yards out. The extra point was good, and we had a tie game and a barn burner at memorial stadium.

The Wolfpack took the kickoff and Kam started his magic show again on the ground and through the air when he hit Speedster Elijah Jordan for a 68 yard passing touchdown leaving the Tigers speechless and down 20-14 with 9:43 remaining. The extra point was good and the Pack regained the lead.

Undaunted, Chilson returned fire with an acrobatic third down conversion that set up the Tigers’ third touchdown on the three-yard line. Chilson finished the job with a three-yard run. The extra point was good and the scoreboard read 21-21 with 8:49 remaining in the third quarter.

Wilkes- Barre got the ball back and Coach Cinti show he still had some tricks up his sleeve when he pulled off a razzle dazzle pass play. QB Kam Taylor threw a screen to Javant McClary who in turn threw a 50 yard touchdown pass to Maleek Robinson making it 27-21 Wolfpack with 7:58 remaining in the third. The extra point failed.

The Tigers roared back with ferocious drive that resulted in a two yard touchdown run by Ty Konen. The extra was good and the Tigers took the lead for the first time 28-27 in the shootout of the season for both teams.

The Pack was down but far from out. Taylor displayed he can play under pressure took his team down to the 12-yard line after the kick off. He then took the snap and without pretense ran to the goal line as if he was on fire for his fourth touchdown of the night. He did the same for the two point conversion and the Wolfpack regained the lead 35-28 with 54 seconds remaining in the third.
The fourth quarter would see plenty of action on both sides, but no scoring.

The Tigers made one last attempt to sustain a drive, but a series of penalties and missteps, something that plagued them all night, caused them to give the ball up with only 48 seconds remaining. Two plays later the Wolfpack finished their season and howled proudly back to the locker room with a hard fought, well deserved 35-28 victory over a good Tunkhannock team who will host Honesdale next week.
