Most D-2 football fans thought that Wyoming Area would meet Scranton Prep for the 2018 D-2 3A Championship; but Lakeland derailed those plans by defeating the Warriors in the 2nd round of the Playoffs. When the 2019 schedule came out showing these teams matching up in Week 2; Sr QB-DB Dominic DeLuca circled it in RED. The talented Sr had a Red Letter Day on Saturday for the Warriors with three touchdowns; a 9 yd scamper to the pylon; a 25 yd interception return, and a 50 yd pass to SR-WR Brian Williams, as the Warriors rolled over the #5-3A State ranked Scranton Prep Cavaliers, 34-0. It was the first time a D-2-3A team had beaten Prep since 2014; and the first time they were shutout since 2012.

The contest’s first momentum shift game on a brutal hit from SR LB-FB F.J. Braccini; who separated Prep QB Paddy Grady from the ball; and SR-NT Enzo Scotto Diluzio recovered at the Prep 35. From the there, the Warriors would convert that turnover with a 3 yd Leo Haros TD run with 2:57 left in Q1. That drive was punctuated by a 4th an 9 conversion on a screen pass from DeLuca to SR HB-LB Corey Mruk. PAT failed and the 1Q ended 6-0 in favor of WA. Early in the second quarter; the Warriors took advantage of great field position and DeLuca scored on a 9 yd run to the far pylon with 10:20 left in the half. The 2 point conversion try would fail, leaving WA up 12-0. With less than five minutes in the half left, Prep was pinned down inside their own ten after a sack by SR Samuel Solomon. A third and long pass ATT by Grady was intercepted by DeLuca at the Prep 25; and he took it in untouched for the third score of the game; and his second of three.

F.J. Braccini made a nice one handed catch on the 2 Pt conversion to put the Warriors up 20-0 with 3:53 left in the half. In the second half; after Preps first drive stalled, the Warriors scored on a pretty pass from DeLuca to Brian Williams; a 50 yarder that Williams corralled around the 2 and carried Prep defenders into the end zone with 8:04 left in Q3. Stanley Moderski;s PAT was good, and the Warriors led 27-0. Corey Mruk closed out the scoring with 1:45 left in Q3 with a 1 yd TD run; preceded by a 37 yd pass from DeLuca to JR Jacob Williams. That made the score 34-0 and that’s how it ended after a scoreless 4th. The Warrior Defense held Prep to a -1 yd rushing on 23 attempts as they make a bid to enter the State Rankings at the 3A level.
