Six weeks ago, the Wyoming Area Warriors traveled to the Back Mountain in Luzerne County to face a high powered Lake-Lehman Black Knights team. The Black Knights scored three times in the first half on long plays and left the Warriors shaking their heads on their way to the locker room at the half; down 21-14. They used a bruising run game in the second half to respond with 21 unanswered points and come away with a 35-30 victory.

So; when Lake-Lehman beat Lakeland in the Opening Round of the Playoffs last week; many Wyoming scoValley Conference Observers were expecting another high powered shoot out between these two teams in the semi-finals. As it turned out; it was the Warriors who did most of the firing; coming away with a 48-12 victory and setting up the District Title Championship game with Scranton Prep next Friday Night. That Contest will be played in West Pittston at the Anthony “Jake” Sobeski stadium.

#1 Darren Rodney (SR) gallops for yardage while #4 Riley Rusyn (SR); # 52 Nassir Condry (JR) and # 25 Colby Gashi (JR) provide blocking support

After LL won the toss and deferred; Wyoming Area scored on a short drive with a Darren Rodney (SR)two yard dash into the end zone. The XP was blocked and the Warriors had a 6-0 lead with 7:52 left in the first quarter. The next score would come early in the second quarter with the Warriors facing a 4th and five on the Black Knights ten yard line. Dominic Deluca (SR) faked a carry over right end; stopped, set his feet and threw a pass to tackle eligible Sam Solomon (SR) who high stepped his way into the end zone for a 10 yard score with 1103 left in Q2.

Sam Solomon (#76) is escorted by JR Bryce Hinkle (JR) on a Tackle Eligible 10 Yard TD scamper

Caleb Graham (SR) recovered the fumble on the two point conversion to make it 14-0. A 1 yard keeper by Deluca with 7:33 left in the 2nd quarter made it 21-0 with the Josh Cumbo (Sr) extra point. The Black Knights would fight back with a nice drive and an Ethan Adams 1 yard keeper with 4:16 left in Q2. The Conversion was tipped and they trailed 21-6. Whatever momentum they achieved with that score was quickly erased when Dominic DeLuca scooped up a squib kick at his own 20; followed the wall to midfield and outraced defenders the rest of the way for an 80 yard kickoff return TD and put the Knights in a 28-6 hole with four minutes left in the half.

alented and Rising JR Ethan Adams (#11) made some plays for Lake Lehman; but was under heavy pressure from the WA Defense; including FR Drew Mruk (#21) and Sr Caleb Graham (#86)

A Lake Lehman drive ended inches outside the goal line at the half on a 4th and 15 strike from Ethan Adams (JR) to Danny Kutz (JR). Officials conferred and players lingered on the field before they signaled that the attempt came up short. The second half would be more WA on the ground as they finished with 364 yards and finished their scoring on a Vicienzo Giambra (JR) 76 yard scamper in an out of traffic. The Knights would add a TD late with a 5 yard run by Jeremy Scouton (Soph) with 1:33 left and the final would be WA 48 LL 12.
