WORDS FROM THE HEAD COACH:

Athan is probably the most underrated player in the old Liberty Division. He has such a high football IQ, understands how defenses work and looks to find the empty space. He is classified as an Athlete because he is extremely versatile. He moved to MLB late in 2023 and excelled in the position that he never played, as his primary position was CB.

GETTING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT ATHAN:

What is the best part of being a student-athlete at Susquenita High School ?
Being able to balance both aspects. Learning discipline that I hope will follow me into my future.

How long have you been playing football(any level) ?
7 Years

Of all the road games you have played, which stadium had the best overall atmosphere, along with what made it so good ?
West Perry High School, the love that the fans have for the game, even the fans that don’t have a kid or friend playing, they are always our supporting the team.

If the game is on the line, do you want to be on offense or defense ? Explain:
Defense, the reason I say this is because there have been multiple games I have played where our defense won us the game. I haven’t had nearly the same number of games won on the offensive side. But I also think that offense you must worry about getting out of bounds, not fumbling, or dropping passes, just having the pressure that you MUST score. But defense, although there is still plenty of pressure to not make a mistake, just knowing that your winning could help some players to think more clearly.

As an athlete, what has been your biggest achievement?
This past track season, I qualified for Districts in the 400m dash as the 16-seed running a 54.85s PR. In the prelims at Districts, I ran a 53.19s to get me 6th place. I ended up running a 53.2 in finals which got me 5th place and a medal. Even now, I can’t believe I hit that big of a PR and went from 16th to 5th.

What was the high point of the 2023 season ?
Beating Newport High School which gave us momentum to finish the season on a 4-game winning streak.

What are you going to miss the most from the class of 2024?
The Seniors, we had 8 Seniors on our defense and 9 on offense that we have to fill the shoes.

What are your goals for the 2024 season?
To have my first winning season, to make the playoffs, to make 1st Team All Stars, to help the younger players to understand the game, to be an example to the younger players on how to be polite, work hard, and to play every play at 110%.

Who is your favorite sports star and why ?
Christian McCaffrey, he is very fun to watch, and he seems very humble although he is one of the best players in the league.

Do you have a favorite play you remember the most ? Explain:
This was just last season, it was our 4th game of the season, we just came off of a really bad performance the week before. It was a home game, conference game, and a rivalry game against Upper Dauphin. We have never done well against this team whenever we played them. It was the first quarter, and we were just scored on, so the score was 8-0. We needed to respond with points, we were at the opposing 35-yard line when we did a counter, and I ran it in to give us the first points of the game. This gave us momentum to go and score again to make the score 14-8.

Who is the best player(s) you have ever lined up against and what team did they play for ?
I can’t remember his name, but it was my Freshman year, he played Slot/RB and played for Big Springs High School.

What stadium, (HS/College/Pro) would you love to visit for a game?
Penn State

What is your favorite Pro Sports team(any sport) ? Explain:
Green Bay Packers, I learned they won the first 2 super bowls and I love winning, so I went with them.

What game, yours, college or pro, was your favorite game you watched and why?
The Packers beating the Cowboys last year in the Wild Card game. They went in as underdogs and became the youngest team to make it to the playoffs.

What sports movie could you watch every day if you had to pick one, and why?
Miracle, the USA Hockey team that beat the Russians. It shows that it doesn’t matter how much of an underdog you are you CAN win if you believe and put in the work.

Name one thing you’d love to do in football that may never happen?
Bring Susquenita its first Championship trophy.

Name a sport you’d love to play but can’t:
There isn’t a sport the I am prohibited from playing fortunately.

What is your most embarrassing sports moment?
We were playing West Perry first game of the season my Sophomore year. It was my first start at cornerback, I was covering a WR and he ran a slant and go, I bit on the slant and he ran right by me for a touchdown that they called back because of a flag. The next play, I was covering a different receiver. I was playing press and he came off the line and pulled me when I went to get hands on. Again, I got burnt but luckily the QB overthrew the pass. I never played press the rest of the year.

When you aren’t playing, practicing, or training for sports, what is your go to activity, and why?
I enjoy fishing with my brothers because it is refreshing and relaxing. I also enjoy hanging out with friends because it always a good time.

Which one, Sheetz, Wawa, or Rutters ? Explain:
I have to go with Sheetz. We have one right by the school and I like their chicken sliders.

What is your favorite vacation destination?
Cape May, NJ.

Tell us something that you have a fear of?
Regrets

Favorite Fast Food/Burger place and why?
Burger King, just because they have good burgers that aren’t 10 dollars.

Have you ever been to a professional sports game, which ones?
No

NBA, NHL, MLB, NCAAF, NFL, Which league is the best and why?
NCAAF, for the most part it isn’t all about the money and I love the tradition.

What is your favorite video game, on mobile and or console?
Rocket League

What toppings go on your favorite pizza?
Sausage

Cape May, NJ. by car with my brothers.

To be successful, not by money or fame, but by being a good example to other.

Location you think would be the best place to live(ie: island, mountains, city, etc) ? Explain why:
Mountains, it’s peaceful and relaxing.
