Wyomissing vs Danville 2020, Wyomissing won 44-14

12-0 vs 12-0, what can be better than this? Star Players on both sides of the ball, a QB with over 30 TDs, a WR with over 20TDs, and the #1 player in the entirety of Pennsylvania. It’s safe to say we are in for a treat in this one.

How did they get here? Danville has rolled so far in the postseason. Their first game against Athens was a 49-0 rout. The encore was a 41-20 win over a Loyalsock team that they had beaten by just three earlier in the year. Wyomissing has played even better thus far in the playoffs. They dominated Hamburg 49-14 in round 1, then rolled over an 11-1 West Perry team last week, 63-7.

Danville has an offensive pairing that has absolutely lit up the teams they have faced. QB Zach Gordon has accounted for 32TDs to just 3INTs passing the ball this year. Gordon is also completing 74.6% of his passes. Zach Gordon has a case to be one of, if not the best QB in the area. His partner in crime is speedy WR Carson Persing, He has 1101 yards on 49 catches for 22TDs.  Danville is not just a passing team, they have one of the best backs in the area. Ty Stauffer has averaged 7.3 yards per carry and has over 1100 rushing yards, he also has 19 rushing TDs.

The headline of the Wyomissing squad is 4-star OL Jven Williams. According to 247 sports recruiting, Williams is the 58th overall player in the nation and the best player in PA for the class of 2023. Another great lineman is junior Caleb Brewer, he and Williams have dominated teams this year. Wyomissing has shut out opponents 4 times through 12 games. The Spartans are a very well-balanced team that has cruised so far this year. Their closest win was a 17-point win over Berks Catholic 41-24.

The story of this game will be the defenses. This is where many would believe Danville has the edge. Danville has shut out opponents 8 times through their 12 games played. That stat is absolutely insane. The Ironmen are allowing under 5 points per game this season, one of the best numbers in the state.

Wyomissing is not a slouch on defense either, allowing just over 7 points per game. In a game like this, mistakes will be amplified and TDs will be hard to come by. Danville’s star WR Carson Persing said “I’d say we just have to be physical and execute and take care of the ball” when talking about how to get the offense going to avoid a slugfest. Persing is also hoping to enjoy the final games he plays on the Ironmen and looks to cherish those moments with his teammates.

So the Stage is set, and the opportunity to make a statement and get one step closer to the ultimate goal of a state title is on the line. Stars will be flying around the field the whole game, but who will come out on top?
