Old vs New

The Quips have been  here many times before. They’ve participated in the Semi-Final round in Class 2A, Class 3A and Class 4A. Twin Valley? Never. This is their first foray into the Semi’s although head coach Brett Myers has been here before with Middletown. It’ll be interesting to see if he can convey that winning mentality to the Raiders.

For Quips coach Warfield, he came, he saw and he conquered the world. Then he took a year off. The Quips started their season on a sheet of ice and haven’t been dominating teams, but they’re winning when it counts, in the win or go home season.

Aliquippa is one of the fabled programs in the state of Pennsylvania.  The Quips are coached by Mike Warfield and have won 5 straight football games.  Quarterback Marques Council has led them throughout the playoffs.  He was thought to be out for the year due to an injury, yet here he is, doing what he does.  Council has thrown for 1,268 yards and a bakers’ dozen touchdowns.  Aliquippa’s two top receivers are Josh Lay and Qalil Goode.  Lay has snagged 32 passes for 509 yards and 4 scores, while Goode has caught 28 tosses for 486 yards and 7 touchdowns.  RB Joseph Work is closing in on 1,000 yards as he has accumulated 988 to date to go along with 10 TDs.  Akiva Woods has chipped in with 528 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns.  The Quip ‘D’ has been lights out in the playoffs, holding an explosive McKeesport eleven to 12 points and Oil City’s potent offense to 6 points.  Goode ran a pick six back last week 101 yards.  Quippa has scored 315 points and allowed 167.

Twin Valley is treading on some new ground under head coach Brett Myers.  The Raiders won their first ever District 3 championship last week in beating Susquehanna Township. And the Raiders have been rolling.  Twin Valley has scored 682 points thus far in 2025, which is an average of 52 points per game.  The school’s career rushing leader, Drew Engle, leads that offense with 1,854 yards carrying the rock and scoring 31 touchdowns.  Lucas Myers has contributed 1,095 yards rushing and 21 TDs.  Sophomore QB Maverick Foster has pitched the pigskin for 1,326 yards and 16 touchdowns.  But he will take off on occasion running the ball as evidenced last week against Susquehanna Township.  Ben Grundy leads the receiving corps.  Greyson Miller, Ryan Rementer, and Noah DiGiacomo head up a defense that has only given up 130 points.

This game features a traditional powerhouse (Aliquippa) with 5 state titles against the new kid in town (Twin Valley) looking to make its first ever appearance in a state championship game.  This should be a good one.  GOOD LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS!!
