(Reading, PA) The rivalry between Berks Catholic and Schuylkill Valley goes back many years.  These two conference foes locked horns as Holy Name and Central Catholic for decades.  Since the merging of CC and HN into Berks Catholic the Saints have had the Cougars number in Berks II conference action.  This was proven even more true Friday night.  The Saints took advantage of some early Cougar mistakes  and cruised to a 41-7 win  on PA Football News “Friday Night Live”.

Abdul MacFoy was “special” for Berks Catholic once again.  MacFoy returned a bobbled opening kick back for a TD.  Abdul also scored on a 50 yard TD run on the first play from scrimmage for Berks Catholic.   QB Terry Derr was solid again for the Saints.  Brandon George was the leader of a stout Saints defensive effort and contributed a 17 yard TD run.

Berks Catholic scored the first 13 points of the game without an offensive snap.  MacFoy returned a chaotic pooch on sides kick that opened the game 68 yards for a score.  The BC defense forced a three and out and the ensuing Panther punt was blocked and recovered in the end zone by the Saints.  We were barely a minute into the game.  Following a three and out, BC started their first possession at mid field.  On the first play MacFoy took it to pay dirt. 20-0 Saints.  On the first play on the next BC possession, QB Terry Derr made a great ball fake into the line, then found a wide open Luis Garcia straight down the field for a TD.  27-0 BC still early in quarter one.

Berks Catholic (6-2) kept pouring it on in quarter two.  Brandon George followed up an interception with a TD run to make it 34-0.  Derr hit Jaden Bookser on a nice TD pass and we went to halftime 41-0 Berks Catholic over Schuylkill Valley.

With the running clock after halftime the game moved quickly through quarter three without either team threatening the end zone.   The Panthers inserted Freshman QB Brad Hoffman in quarter four.  Hoffman capped off a nice drive with a TD run mid way through the quarter.  The game ended Berks Catholic 41 Schuylkill Valley (4-4) 7.

The Saints march toward the playoffs  goes through Fleetwood next week.  Next up for Schuylkill Valley is league foe Wyomissing.
