In the final game of the York Rose Bowl, CD East beat York High with a score of 40-6.

The first quarter saw the Panthers open with a long drive that resulted in a 10 yard rushing touchdown by QB Demaj Jalloh. The extra point was good, which made it 7-0 with 8:25 still left in the first quarter. It wouldn’t be too long until York High is able to find the endzone, however, as Tas’Mire Price ran the kickoff back for a 60-yard touchdown. The Bearcats tried for two, but they were unsuccessful, making it 7-6 with under 8 minutes to play in the first quarter.

Both teams worked hard for their possessions but ended up with a punt and a turnover on downs in the next two drives. It would be the Panthers who strike next, but at a time when neither team thought it was going to happen. It’s 4th and 15, and instead of bringing in the punt team, East High elects to keep their offense in the game. This was a good decision, as an 18 yard pass to Amir Lemelle got them out of trouble. QB Demaj Jalloh would then run the ball into the endzone for his second of the game, making it 13-6 with 1:54 to play. The PAT was blocked, so the score stayed 13-6.

With under 2 minutes in the first quarter, York got the ball back, however they turned it over on downs. With just 40 seconds left, CD East’s quarterback Demaj Jalloh threw a 30 yard pass to Amir Lemelle, who ran it 40 yards to the endzone. The PAT was good, which made it 20-6 East High with 32.8 remaining in the first quarter.

The Bearcats got the ball back one more time in the first quarter, but it resulted in a turnover on downs, again, leading us into the second quarter. CD East, who was looking dominant on defense as they were able to stop the Bearcats runs, got the ball back and down to the Bearcat’s 10 yard line. Just as they thought it was going to be another touchdown, QB Demaj Jalloh threw an interception to York High’s David Warde, which resulted in a touchback. Although they were spared, York High could’t make anything happen as they struggled to complete passes and were getting stuffed on runs.

Both teams used up all of their timeouts at around 8 minutes left in the 2nd. The Panthers put theirs to good use, because at 6:42 left in the half, Leon Parsons ran it 32 yards to the back of the endzone, putting the Panthers up 26-6 after a failed 2-pt conversion.

At the end of the first half, East High lead the Bearcats 26-6, and the score would continue to inflate for the Panthers. After both teams got stopped and had to punt, CD east got the ball back but threw an interception to York High’s Robert Salazar. Not able to capitalize on the turnover was the Bearcats, who fumbled a handoff that CD East recovered.

CD East scored twice more in the second half, once from a short run by Traevon Jones to make it 32-6, and another from a 1-yard rushing play by Shavane Anderson, who finished the night’s scoring and making it 40-6.

York High plays away at Hempfield next Friday, while CD East hosts Chambersburg.
