Central York Football Players and Cheerleaders singing with the band after a 30-20 win Friday Night.
Central York started the game off with a big play by Juelz Goff when he scored on an 80-yard run on the first play from scrimmage for a touchdown, then closed out the 30-20 win with several big plays. Led by the Junior running back Goff (179 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns) and a tough defense Central York was able to dominate the game late to get the victory. Central York Head Coach Gerry Yonchiuk on the win “You want to go 2-1 with league play starting coming. I like our chances in league play. This is a good football team”.
After Goff opened the game with an 80-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage Central took the early 7-0 lead. Hempfield responded with a 13-play touchdown drive to tie it up at 7 on a Grant Hoover 2-yard rushing touchdown. Later in the first half, Goff rushed it in from 1 yard out. The extra point was no good, so Central York led 13-7 at the half.
In the 3rd Quarter nobody scored, but early in the 4th Quarter Matthew Parker connected on a 35-yard field goal to take a 16-7 lead. On the next drive, Hempfield Quarterback Jackson Landis threw an interception that Saxton Suchanic returned for a touchdown. Suddenly Central York had a commanding 23-7 lead, but Hempfield wouldn’t give up and scored another touchdown to make it 23-13. After an unsuccessful onside kick, Goff then iced the game away with a 58-yard touchdown run. Goff on the win ” “We got our momentum back and we are ready for York Adams league”.
One of the themes of the night for Central York was their defense. Grant Hoover had run for over 300 yards in the 1st two weeks of the season. Central York’s defense was determined to stop him and were able to hold him to 45 yards rushing on the evening. Yonchiuk on the defensive effort “Our defensive coordinator Mike Cesarano does a great job and we were able to slow down Grant Hoover who is a great back for Hempfield”. Central York improved to 2-1 on the year with the hard fought victory.
