FAWN GROVE, PA – Kennard-Dale broke their 5-game losing streak last night in a breakaway win against York Suburban on Friday Night. Both teams came into the game players out, with the most notable being Kennard-Dale’s starting QB Noah Hoffer, who was replaced by Clayton Neff. York Suburban, who was 0-7 coming into Friday’s game, was looking for a late-season win.
On the first kickoff, Kennard-Dale’s David Smith ran the ball 90 yards past the Trojan’s special teams for a touchdown, making it 7-0 before either offense saw the field. Neither team was able to make much happen for the rest of the quarter, and at the end of the first, it was still 7-0.
The Rams capitalized on their lead in the second quarter, with QB Clayton Neff being able to find a gap in the line to run it in for a yard, his first of many for the night. With 9:28 left in the second quarter, Kennard-Dale was already up 14-0. Down by 14, York Suburban needed to score before the end of the half. They put 7 on the board from a 2 yard QB keeper by Rylan Bratton to cut the Ram’s lead in half with 6:31 left before halftime. The first half ended with a 14-7 lead by Kennard-Dale, however, they would break away in the third and fourth quarters.
The third quarter saw Rylan Bratton’s second touchdown for 29 yards, tying the game at 14 with 8 minutes left in the third. This would be the end of York Suburban’s night offensively, with them only being able to have short drives. Clayton Neff tallied his second of the night off a 1-yard QB keeper, putting the Rams up 21-7, which is how the third quarter ended.
The Rams showed no mercy in the fourth quarter, headlined by Clayton Neff, who scored his third of the night off an 11-yard run to make it 28-14 with 9 minutes left in the game. He would find the endzone for his fourth and final time with a 7-yard keeper, putting them up 35-14 with 6 minutes left. After this touchdown, Kennard-Dale’s kickoff bounced past the York Suburban special teams and was recovered by the Rams. This led to Jack McShane finding the gap to run it in 5 yards for a touchdown. Josh Boyles made all of the Rams extra points for the night, and after the ball went through the uprights, the lead was now 42-14. This is how the game would end.
Clayton Neff led the Rams with 4 rushing touchdowns, while Rylan Bratton was the lone scorer for York Suburban. With the win, Kennard-Dale finds its first conference win of the season and advances to 3-5 overall, while York Suburban falls to 0-8. The Rams host Dover next Friday, while York Suburban hosts Eastern.
