On Friday night while feeling under the weather and the game I was gonna covered (Anneville-Cleona vs.Trinity) was moved to Saturday night I decided to grab a seat on the couch and watch three high school football games. So I embarked on a fun journey of watching 3 high school football games on my computer and my one Ipad. Below is a recap from the 3 games I watched.
Hempfield 30-Carlisle 14
In a typical dominating fashion for Hempfield they took a 17-7 lead at the half and cruised in the 2nd half for a 30-14 win. Stephen Katch had 2 rushing touchdowns on the evening. Jackson Landis threw a touchdown pass to Andy Garcia and also rushed for a touchdown.
Hempfield’s defense was stingy all night. The only two touchdowns they allowed was a broken play at the end of the half and a kickoff return. A really dominate effort by the black nights all night.
Next up for Hempfield hosts Manheim Township, which is a rematch from earlier this year when Hempfield beat Manheim Township. Manheim Township knocked off Cumberland Valley on Friday night.
West Perry 63-Lancaster Catholic 20
In a dominant effort West Perry beat Lancaster Catholic Friday night. West Perry had a 35-7 lead at the half. Brad Hockenberry West Perry’s running back had 112 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns in the first half.
In the 2nd half Lancaster Catholic tried to make a desperate comeback, led by running back Elijah Cunningham 40 yard rushing touchdown, Terrel Crowley’s 70 yard touchdown and Will Cranford for 65 yards to Jaevon Parker, but West Perry had an answer all night.
West Perry will play in the District Championship for 3A next week when they play the winner of Wyomissing vs. Hamburg. Wyomissing is the state power who is coming off back to back state title games.
Central York 52-York High 45
I saved the best for last. Rivalry game? Check. Rematch from two weeks ago? Check. 2 Dominant Division 1 Running Backs in Jahiem White and Juelz Goff? Check. Unbelievable game. This game had video game like stats as the teams went back and forth all night.
In the first half alone here were the big plays. Central York’s Quarterback Nasir Still rushed for 57 yard touchdown. Still hit Juelz Goff for a 40 yard touchdown. Jaheim White of York High had 2 rushing touchdowns. Nigeir Dewitt of Central York had a rushing touchdown and Montress Jackson had a rushing touchdown. Central York 23-York High 22 at the half. Also Central York turned it over on downs while at the York High 2 yard line at the end of the half or could have added to this score.
In the 2nd half the scoring bonanza continued. Central’s Still hit Thaddeus Shaw for a 24 yard touchdown. Still threw a 62 yard touchdown pass to Guff. Not to be out done. York High’s Quarterback Sam Stoner had a rushing and passing touchdown. York’s White also had a rushing down and Goff as well for Central.
Anyways the game came down to the end. York High had the ball at Central York’s 6 yard line with 51 seconds left in the game. They are down 52-45. A touchdown and 2 point conversation they win. 2nd down play they motioned White out of the backfield. Stone scrambles. He gets 2 yards. 3rd and goal with 30 seconds left Stoner spikes the ball to stop the clock. 4th down and goal for the game York High tosses a pitch to White. He is tackled for no gain. Ball Game. Central York couldn’t stop York High all night and finally had a goal line stand at the end to win the game. Crazy ending.
Central York will play the winner of Harrisburg vs. Wilson. They play tomorrow afternoon.
