I went to Cocalico Friday night when they hosted Elco. Cocalico easily won the game 42-6. Impressive effort by Cocalico Friday night. They smothered Elco all night in all 3 phases of the game.

Player of the week: Jaivon Parker of Lancaster Catholic. Jaivon has 2 interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown. Plus caught a touchdown pass. The Senior has had a great  year and has excelled at both defense and offense for the undefeated Crusaders.

Team of the week: Lancaster Catholic. In a game of unbeaten teams with Hamburg Lancaster Catholic won 38-35 in an instant classic. Catholic now improves to 6-0 on the year and is in the drivers seat in the section 5 race. Don’t count out Hamburg though. They played really well and these 2 teams could meet again down the road in the playoffs.

Coach of the week: Anthony Cox Head Coach Solanco. Solanco improved to 6-0 on the year when they beat Twin Valley Friday night. Led by their 24 Seniors Solanco is 6-0 on the year. Coach Cox’s team has a big one next Friday night when they face undefeated Elizabethtown.

*****I will be covering this game Friday night between Solanco and Elizabethtown. Should be a good one.

Play of the week: On Friday I saw Cocalico vs. Eleco. Both teams run veer offenses. Below is a sample of veer option. It is a great offense because it requires the defense to play discipline on every play. It is important to always stay disciplined when you play veer teams because one mistake can lead to a busted play. In fact when I was a coach we use to practice without at ball at times when practicing against a veer offense because you want everyone to just read their keys and do their assignments.

Defending the Spread Inside Veer Triple Option | Defending Option

Football has 4 downs, so here  are 4 thoughts from what I saw, watched, and heard this week:

1) Manheim Central and Exeter both got wins on Friday to improve to 6-0 on the year. On October 28th they face off. A good chance they both will be 9-0 and the winner will win the section 2 title of LL.

2) Central York with another win against Dallastown. They improved to 5-1 on the year. York High was off this week as they couldn’t get an opponent this week. Those 2 will square off on October 28th as well which will be for the YAIAA Division 1 title.

3) New Oxford improved to 5-1 on the year. They are having a good year and are in the mix for the District 3 playoffs. They are also the favorite to win Division 2 of the YAIAA.

4) In LL and YAIAA we still have 6 undefeated teams. Two will play next week when Elizabethtown plays at Solanco this week. Exeter and Manheim Central face off last week of season.  So Wyomissing and Lancaster Catholic both have a chance at going undefeated along with the winners of the other 2 games.
