(Robesonia, PA) 2018 has been a special year for Conrad Weiser football.  It marks the 50th anniversary of football at the school.  The Scouts also celebrated a Berks Section One title.  In winning the title Weiser defeated both Exeter Twp. and Governor Mifflin.  It was time to host a home playoff game against York Adams foe Gettysburg.  Both teams held nothing back, with everything on the line. And in the end four quarters was not enough. Conrad Weiser came out the victor in double overtime thriller over Gettysburg  34-28.

Quarterback Alex MacKenzie came up huge for Conrad Weiser in leading the Scouts from behind to the win.  His pinpoint passing and key runs sparked the Scouts all night.  CJ Civiello also had a great night for Weiser.  CJ excelled on special teams which included  a 72 yard punt return TD. A second half  INT by CJ on defense set up another score.

” Big players make big plays and that’s what happened” said MacKenzie following the win. “its incredible, its a great feeling, we have a great coaching staff here, its a brotherhood here.”  Head Coach Alan Moyer who is a Conrad Weiser alum said “we made some adjustments defensively in the second half that held #2( Ammon Robinson) in check , good teams find a way to win and that was a good example tonight.”

The Gettysburg Warriors took the opening kick and methodically marched down the field on the legs of Ammon Robinson.  His TD put Gettysburg out in front.

Weiser came back with a sustained drive of there own.  It stalled in the Gettysburg end, but Matt Noll’s boot made it 7-3 after one.

Early in the second quarter Weiser was able to jump on top 10-7 on a punt return TD by CJ Civiello

I called him Mr. Everything but the ensuing kick was returned by Ammon Robinson for a score.  On the next Gettysburg possession Ammon scored on a 22 yard run to make it 21-10 warriors.

Weiser had one last chance before the half.  A Nice goal line stand by Gettysburg and we were still 21-10 at the break.

Conrad Weiser came out in the second half with a huge sense of purpose.  But, Gettysburg had a big defensive stand deep in their own end to keep the score 21-10.

CJ Civiello made a big INT for the Scouts deep in the Warriors end.  QB Alex MacKenzie dove across for Weiser, a two pointer got the score to 21-18 Warriors.

Weiser mounted a drive toward the end of quarter three, when the drive stalled, well lets just say coaching took over.

Give credit to the Gettysburg D to hang in there after the fake. The Warriors held the Scouts to a field goal try, but we were tied at 21.

The ensuing kickoff well it went to Gettysburg Mr. Everything Ammon Robinson and all he did tonight was score Td’s! A second kickoff return score made it 28-21 Gettysburg with 10:52 left.  Back and forth we started to go.  Weiser mounted another good drive on the arm of MacKenzie.  His toss to Gio Pacheco set up a sneak TD and we were tied with 9:23 left.  Wow!

Both defenses played well down the stretch.  Weiser did have a good chance to win the game on a field goal late, but it was no good as time expired.  We had extra football tied at 28 between Conrad Weiser and Gettysburg.

Both teams were conservative in the first overtime.  Both teams relied on a field goal, and neither team converted.  We were on to overtime two.

The Scouts wasted no time in getting a MacKenzie TD in the second overtime.  But the extra point was no good.

Gettysburg took over with a chance to win.  On fourth down the Conrad Weiser defense rose up to break up a pass and preserve the win. The Scouts were off to the District Three 4A Semi Final!

Bishop McDevitt now awaits Conrad Weiser.  Gettysburg finishes an outstanding year (8-3)
