‘Dawgs’ get taken to pound… Cedar Cliff 48-6 on Huskies Homecoming

Following a rousing rendition of Francis Scott Key’s  The Star-Spangled Banner delivered by Mifflin County students, I witnessed one of the most technically sound teams I’ve had the pleasure of watching.

When asked what he was hoping he could see from his team this week, Cedar Cliff head coach Colin Gillen had this to say, “I mean execution, probably, we need to learn to do our jobs and trust everyone else is doing theirs”.

I also had a chance to catch up with Husky Head Coach Shane Breon, and he had this to say, “They have big kids, we have big kids. Hopefully we can establish a running game that’ll help pave the easiest path to victory”.

The first quarter kicked off with Mifflin County’s offense working smoothly until Mifflin County QB Landon Eichorn tossed one into coverage and Cedar Cliff took over around the 9:50 mark. Cedar Cliff couldn’t get much going the next drive and were forced to punt. Taeon Abraham managed to down the punt on the one yard line and put the “Dawgs” in a bad spot. There was a misgroove on the handoff, causing a Deacon Sheaffer fumble that resulted in a Cedar Cliff Touchdown. (7-0 PAT good) Breaking the deadlock with just shy of seven minutes gone in the first, Mifflin County still failed to get anything started. The capper on that drive would end up being an incomplete pass on 4th and 4 from the Colts’ 46. The defenses would take over for a little bit in this one until Jaylen Bowersox stole the show making a circus-like catch for a touchdown. Isaac Parks-Gil’s PAT would be blocked. (7-6) Cedar Cliff 6:36 2nd. Cedar Cliff would get the ball back, flawlessly executing both the run and the pass. Capping off the drive with a 3 yard Bennet Secrest touchdown pass to his little brother Blake extended the Cedar Cliff lead.(2:09 PAT good 21-6 2nd). A Mifflin County turnover on the following drive would allow time for one more Cedar Cliff score before the intermission. Junior Julius Tirado jumped on a fumble in the endzone with under a minute to go.(28-6 Cedar Cliff at the half)

The first drive of quarter number three spelled disaster for the Huskies as QB Landon Eichorn would be stripped, setting up a short field for the Colts. Secrest and Company would be able to take advantage as Tyrail Hills Jr would barrel through a whole pack of Huskies on his way to a 23 yard score. (35-6 8:59 3rd) Just as soon as the Huskies got it back, they would lose it again as Parker Kearns would fumble on a hard hit the next drive . The Colts would ride a tough run game into the red zone before the brotherly connection would hit for score number 2 on the night. (PAT good 42-6 Cedar Cliff 1:30 3rd) The Jayvee teams would enter from that point on with neither offense really able to get anything going until  a long Taeon Abraham punt return set up a Sean Smith Jr. plunge from 1 yard out. (48-6 PAT Blocked 1:34 4th)

All told, the final from Mitchell Field was 48-6 Cedar Cliff. Thanks for reading! Follow me on Twitter at QuincyPiper_
