ELCO Defeats Ephrata 28-27 in L-L League Opener

The Eastern Lebanon County Raiders traveled to Ephrata on Friday night beating the Mountaineers 28-27 in the Lancaster-Lebanon League season opener for both team.

While both teams capitalized on opportunities, ELCO dominated the run game, out-rushing Ephrata 309 yards to 149.  Jake Williams led the way for the Raiders with 135 yards and a pair of scores, including touchdown runs of 49 and 71 yards.  Richard Greer led the Mountaineers with 68 yards rushing.

The scoring started with ELCO taking the opening kickoff and driving 66 yards in 3 plays, capped by Williams’ 49-yard score.

Ephrata answered right back, marching 73 yards in 13 plays.  QB Miracle Wratto punched the ball in from the 1 yard line to tie the game at 7-7.

ELCO QB Braden Bohannon started the second quarter with a bang, scoring on a 1-yard keeper, to put the Raiders up 14-7.

Andre Weidman scored on a 4-yard run, taking advantage of an ELCO fumble which set the Mountaineers up at the Raider 13 yard line.  This ended the scoring in the first half with the game tied 14-14.

After the break, Miracle Wratto capped an 8 play, 53 yard drive with a 7-yard run to put the Mounts up 21-14 early in the 3rd quarter.

ELCO tied the game early in the fourth on a 30-yard pass from Braden Bohannon to Reilly Peiffer to knot the game at 21.

On the ensuing kickoff, Ephrata’s Andre Weidman dashed 93 yards for the score, but Ephrata missed the extra point, putting the Mounts up 27-21 with 6:54 to go in the game.

On the first play from scrimmage after the ensuing kickoff, Jake Williams ran for his second touchdown of the night, this one 71 yards, to put the Raiders on top for good 28-27.

Next week, ELCO is at home against the Annville-Cleona Flying Dutchmen, while Ephrata travels to Columbia to take on the Crimson Tide.
