(Reading, PA) Every current Reading area football coach and team has is roots firmly planted inside the hallowed grounds of First Energy Stadium, home of the Reading Fightins. The AA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies resurrected a Reading football tradition by sponsoring the Baseballtown Gridiron Classic. Game one of this three week spectacle features high school and college football games between traditional Berks county rivals. A Berks One matchup of Exeter Twp. up and Muhlenberg was featured in the opening game. After a tight first quarter, Exeter (3-2) pulled away to defeat Muhlenberg (0-5) 42-6.
Pressed in to duty due to injury, Freshman Quarterback Colin Payne paced the Eagles offensive attack . Payne played mistake free football and passed for two TD’s The Exeter running attack was paced by Steven Rose and Jerimiah Nixon who each had two TD’s

A very satisfied Exeter Head Coach Matt Bauer said after the game about his Freshman QB “Colin Payne really answered the call tonight” Commenting on two days extra rest over next weeks opponent Conrad Weiser ” I am not complaining, rest assured we have a lot of cleaning up to do, that is a tough opponent.”

Exeter moves on for a key Berks One showdown next week with Conrad Weiser. PA Football News “Friday Night Live” will be there to webcast the game. Muhlenberg now (0-5) has a non-league game with York Suburban.
