Gettysburg falls short against New Oxford

These two teams met at Warrior Stadium on a beautiful evening. The first quarter was a defensive battle with both sides flipping the field several times. A well-played and coaching clinic by both sides. End of the first quarter 0 – 0.

The second quarter opened as both teams made adjustments. New Oxford drawing first blood on a 30-yard touchdown pass at 6:59. Gettysburg picked up some momentum and drove right down the field and scored on a two-yard touchdown pass with 4 seconds left in the second quarter. Both teams went for 2 and were successful. Score at the half 8 – 8

Both teams came out of the locker rooms looking for a close game as it was anyone’s for the taking. New Oxford’s offensive line started taking control of the game and allowed them to break off a 28-yard rushing TD at 8:20 in the third quarter. New Oxford was given a short field resulting from an errant snap and recovery. New Oxford did not squander the opportunity, by tossing a 28-yard pass for a touchdown at 8:20 of the third quarter. Gettysburg was struggling throughout the second half and New Oxford had all the momentum. Gettysburg was however putting on a running clinic but was unable to capitalize on it.

The start of the fourth quarter was good for New Oxford as they marched right down the field and scored on a 14-yard touchdown pass at 11:05. That score took the wind out of Gettysburg’s sails, and they floundered trying to make something out of nothing. Then when it looked like the game was over, Gettysburg found their stride and scored on 14 yard run at 3:22.

And that was it, final score 28 – 14. Gettysburg ran the ball 40 times for 187 yards and passed 24 times for 93 yards. New Oxford ran the ball 28 times for 106 yards and passed 26 times for 146.
