
Harrisburg defeats Central York 44-7 to advance to the PIAA District III 6A Championship Game

Head Coach Cal Everett addresses his team after a 44-7 win over Central York
Harrisburg dominated Central York Friday night with a 44-7 win Friday night to advance to the PIAA District III 6A Championship Game. Harrisburg was led by running backs, Kyle Williams and Mahkai Hopkins and a dominant offensive line as they ran the ball all night on Central York’s defense. Harrisburg rushed for 486 yards on the night and held Central York to under 100 total yards on the evening. Head Coach Cal Everett on the win “Just come out and execute the game plan, play hard and have fun those are the 3 things I tell the players every game”.
Central York started the scoring with an interception that Tyler Frey returned for a touchdown off the pass from Harrisburg’s Quarterback Shawn Lee, to take an early 7-0 lead. Harrisburg responded when Kyle Williams rushed for a 1-yard touchdown and a 2-point conversation to take an 8-7 lead. Later in the 2nd Quarter, Williams would rush in for a 2nd rushing touchdown of the half. Harrisburg had a 16-7 lead at the half. Coach Everett “Our guys did a great job all night. Our offensive line did a great job and our backs did the rest”.
Harrisburg continued its dominance in the 2nd half. After a 3 and out. Williams returned a punt for a 63-yard touchdown. Williams on the return “Looking to score every time with the punt return”. Williams also scored from 9 yards out later in the game. Hopkins also rushed for 2 touchdowns in the 2nd half. Williams had 168 yards rushing on the night and 4 total touchdowns. Hopkins was even better rushing for 215 yards on the night. Williams had this to say “We pride ourselves on being the best running back duo in the state”.
Williams a Temple commit was dominant all night as a runner. Him and Hopkins are a great 1-2 punch in the backfield. Plus the Cougars offensive line was dominant as well creating holes all night. Finally Williams also made the game changing play with the punt return for a touchdown. Harrisburg will play Manheim Township next week for the District Championship and also try to avenge a lose from earlier this year to them.
