“At this point in the year, we have to earn next week; we have to earn the right to be together longer.”

That was the message from the one the “Cougs” call ‘Coach Cal’ after their 42-6 throttling of Dallastown. The first quarter in this one was a bit of a feeling-out process. Harrisburg came out of the gate a little bit flat, and Dallastown was flying from sideline to sideline on defense. The second quarter began, and the Harrisburg offense caught fire. Harrisburg took advantage, coming down the field after a short punt and cashing in on a 34-yard dot to Mekhi Jackson from Jaiyon Lewis. (7:34 1st, PAT blocked).

They weren’t done yet, however, as they’d score on the ensuing three possessions. Quincy Brannon was on the receiving end of a 24-yard strike from Jaiyon Lewis. (PAT good, 3:34 2nd). Messiah Mickens cashed in on a 13-yard run. (PAT good, 1:14 2nd). And on the final play of the first half, Elias Coke was returning a Dallastown punt, and as the defense collapsed, he lateraled the football to Quincy Brannon, who took the ball the remaining 35 yards, making it 27-0 following the made PAT. That sent Harrisburg to the locker room with all the momentum.

Backed up in the shadow of his own goalposts to start the third, Messiah Mickens got 89 of his 153 yards on the day in a single play. He took an outside handoff and was off to the races. In addition to the Jaiyon Lewis 2-point conversion scamper, Harrisburg had the game in mercy rule territory with 10:08 to go in the third. D’ante Sheffey found himself in the end zone a few drives later on a 20-yard dash set up by a Quincy Brannon interception. (PAT good, 5:15 third).

Dallastown managed a single score late in quarter number four, however, as Matt Stone and Jalen Cook connected for a score late in the fourth, making it 42-6 (missed PAT, 3:06 4th).
