Harrisburg came to State College and took care of business, effectively limiting the State College offense to just one visit to the redzone all game. This performance happened thanks to a strong offensive output by Shawn Lee and a very impressive defensive showing.

The first possession for Harrisburg started off with a bang when Shawn Lee completed a big pass then finished the job with a 7 yard run to put the Cougars ahead early 7-0.

Harrisburg struck again when Shawn Lee found sophomore receiver Elias Coke for the 40 yard touchdown to put Harrisburg up 14-0 with 10 seconds left in the first.

The last score of the game came from Nehemiah Ewell midway through the second quarter. The junior running back took the ball 14 yards for the Harrisburg score, and after a missed extra point the score  was 20-0.

The second half was quite cagey with neither team able to score. Both teams found chances in each other’s redzone but came up short with Harrisburg turning it over on downs and State College getting the ball intercepted by Junior Quincy Brannon, who had an amazing one-handed catch.

After the game I was able to interview Harrisburg’s head football coach Calvin Everett and Quarterback/Cornerback Shawn Lee; first up was Shawn, when asked about his performance he had this to say, “it feels good going against a great team in their home stadium and coming out winning so that feels good, that’s a good team.” After being asked about how it feels to be a two way player and the endurance required he responded with this, “Really just in practice, conditioning and running and pushing myself as hard as I can so when the game starts I’m not as tired.” Next up was coach Cal. First, I asked about how he felt after the win, “I feel good, I feel really good, you know the way that our guys came out and executed the game plan.” Next I asked about his feelings about the shutout his defense was able to force, “I’m excited you know our guys executed the game plan from a defensive standpoint and to hold state to zero points that’s huge.”

Harrisburg showed real dominance up front on both sides of the ball making holes on offense and defensively getting in the backfield fast.State College did show some grit after a very tough first half and they were able to hold Harrisburg to zero points in the second half. Next week Harrisburg looks to continue their run to a Commonwealth championship when they take on Chambersburg and State College looks to get back on track with a win when they travel to Cumberland Valley.
