It was a battle that was the most highly anticipated of the matchups of the Peach Bowl Series at Chambersburg. Two state title runners up, both ranked in the top two in their respective classes this year, both will settle for nothing less than a return to the state title games and both loaded with D1 talent. The game lived up to the billing. The Panthers used big plays and their usual smothering defense to take home the Peach Bowl trophy, escaping Chambersburg high school with a 19-14 win. Georgia commit Jabree Coleman-Wallace carried the ball 23 times for 136 yards and a score for Imhotep while Stone Saunders threw for 286 yards and a score for McDevitt.

Imhotep had to hold on at the end with their defense, but it was the offense that got things rolling early on. After the teams traded a couple possessions, the Panthers found a gear and drove the length of the field, ending the drive with a 11 yard td pass from Mika Davis to Johanne Hennigan. The kick was true, giving Imhotep the 7-0 lead.

It took one play in the second quarter for extend their lead. Wallace-Coleman broke loose for an 82 yard td run. The point after failed leaving Imhotep with a 13-0 lead. McDevitt had it’s opportunities but came up short several times. Five times in the first half the Crusaders had possessions end in Panther territory but on all five occassions they came up short. Once with a sure td pass slipping right through the receivers hands, once on a missed catch in the endzone and a missed field goal. “That’s the best defense we’ll see all year, but we can’t have that many mistakes and points left on the field” said McDevitt head coach Jeff Weschter.

Then with 6:44 left in the third, Saunders connected the Tyshawn Russell to put the Crusaders on the board.

Imhotep responded with what appeared to be a game sealing td midway through the fourth when Rahmir Stewart ran the ball in from the 8, but after holding McDevitt on yet another 4th down in Tep territory, Jabree Coleman appeared to be stopped but the ball came loose, Jaire Rawlinson picked it up and ran into the endzone to make it a 19-14 game. The defense, however, did it’s job once again and the Panthers got the win.
