KUTZTOWN VALIANTLY TAKES ON BERKS CATHOLIC

(Reading, PA) How many times have we heard that the score really did not reflect the actual outcome of a football game.  That was never more true than when on Friday Night the Kutztown Cougars came to the Forino Sports Complex to meet the Berks Catholic Saints.  All parties knew the outcome before the game even began.  The beliefs and values  of football is what were on display for all to see Friday night.  And in the end, the score really did not matter  What really mattered were the life lessons that both teams and schools experienced by playing in this contest.

“We respect the game and we respect our opponent” said Saints Head Coach Rick Keeley  “My hats off to Kutztown for showing up here tonight. There might have been some fear coming down here, but I just wanted to share with the kids…that builds bravery, that builds character, and that’s what they built tonight.”

“None of these guys gave up” said Kutztown Head Coach Joe Moyer after the game.  “I told them going into tonight’s game, walking out onto this field this year, and in this game, they have already won. Watching these kids just not give up is the best feeling as a coach you could ever have… we had a kid come out for the team this week, it just lets me know that we have to be doing something right.  Football is a lot about X’s and O’s, but I told our kids coming into this game, you have to face adversity in your life, you can’t just give up and run away, I am proud of each and every one of them.”

I wondered to myself why I felt drawn to report on the Berks Catholic vs Kutztown game Friday Night.  After watching the game and listening to the Coaches it was easy for me to understand why I came to this lopsided matchup.  I love the game of football.  I love what football stands for.  I marvel at the life lessons that football teaches our country’s young men.  It is fantastic how football binds the fabric of our communities. I love how covering the game of football makes me a better man.
