MANHEIM CENTRAL ON TO HERSHEY 34-12 OVER UPPER DUBLIN

(Ambler, PA) Special Teams plays a huge part in every football game, but Special Teams seems to be even more magnified in the post season.  Manheim Central’s  set it self up for success Friday Night with a terrific effort by it’ special teams and cruised to a 34-12 win over Upper Dublin in a PIAA 5A Semi Final.

Along with the Special Teams effort the Barons Defense provided a lights out performance.  Upper Dublin Quarterback Mike Slivka was pressured in the pocket all night long.  The Cardinals were also never able to put together any kind of consistent ground attack

Manheim Central Junior Tyler Hartl  who had a game changing punt block said “we know that defense wins championships, but we also know that we won a state title on a special teams blocked PAT, so we know the importance of both.”  Quarterback Evan Simon after the win said “we are a program where the standard is set high, we are not done yet.”  Head Coach Dave Hahn agreed that Special Teams played a big part in the win ” we have a special teams coach who is awfully dedicated, he puts in as much time and effort on special teams as I do on offense, he leaves no stone unturned.”

Manheim Central took the opening kick into the Upper Dublin end.  The Cardinals stopped the drive with a nice INT

Manheim Central special teams was huge all night.  A partially blocked punt set up this first quarter score to get the Barons up 7-0

 

The turning  point of the game was a punt block by Tyler Hartl.  The short field once agian led to points. Evan Simon ran it in and a 14-0 Barons lead.

 

 

Upper Dublin got on the board next with a nifty Jason Scott end zone ricochet grab.  Ballgame here at 14-6.

A nice return on the ensuing kick off by MC set the Barons up with good field.  Shortly before half Evan Simon was money once again to make it 21-6.

 

A nice end zone INT on a Hail Mary by Upper Dublin and we went to half 21-6 Barons

A defensive third quarter battle got broken wide open on a fantastic catch and run by Will Rivers of Manheim Central to move the lead to 28-6.

The Barons controlled the ball and the next two drives were ended by Field Goals by Niko Gavala to push the lead out to 34-6.

The Cardinals added a late TD to make the final 34-12.  Manheim Central is on to Hershey.  A fine season comes to a close for Upper Dublin finishing (12-2)
