Palmyra came out strong against a great Bishop McDevitt team jumping to a 3-0 lead, but in the end, the Cougars could not hang with the number 1 ranked Crusaders. McDevitt went on to a 49-3 win. Palmyra got a 25 yard field goal in the 1st quarter from Mat Bordner. During a McDevitt punt, the ball sailed over the kickers head resulting in a loss of 25 Yards. The Cougars couldn’t move the ball, so they settled for the field goal at 6:40 of the 1st quarter.
After struggling on their first possession due to a fired-up Palmyra defense, the Crusaders marched 80-yards on their second possession and scored on an 11-yard pass at from Stone Saunders to Tyshawn Russell for the 7-3 lead, 3:07 1st quarter.
Their next possession took 2:06. Marquese Williams broke off a 94-yard touchdown run at 2:06, of the 1st quarter. The Crusaders took control of the game from here and didn’t look back. They poured on the points, scoring on a Stone Saunders 43-yard touchdown pass to Chase Ragan with 7:11 left in the 2nd quarter.
Getting a very short field, Williams scored his third TD of the night on an 8-yard scamper for McDevitt’s next touchdown making it 28-3, 5:10 of the 2nd quarter.
Touchdown Jesus was looking over the crusaders with a 44-yard pick 6 touchdown by Chase Regan, at 2:55 2nd quarter, then Cyncir Bower scored from 2 yards out making the score 42-3 heading into halftime.
A 4th quartar possession saw Stone Saunders toss a 28-yd touchdown to Rico Scott for the final score of the game. At this point with the game well out of reach, coach Jeff Weachter made wholesale changes by making substitutions the remaining part of the game.
Next week the Crusaders take on Cedar Cliff who dropped a close one to Hershey while Palmyra will face a Mifflin County team who got a big win on Thursday as well.
