The Mechanicsburg Wildcats overcame mistakes and an athletic Elizabethtown defense to win in OT, 14-7. Junior QB Seth Brubaker dove across the goal line from the 2-yd line, sealing the victory for Mechanicsburg.
After Elizabethtown scored on its first possession, on a beautiful 31-yd touchdown pass from Elizabethtown QB Jeff Rudy to WR Braden Cummings, the game turned defensive, with neither team scoring another offensive touchdown until Brubaker’s score in overtime.
The only other score in regulation came on a 79-yd blocked field goal return by Mechanicsburg CB Rashawn Early-Holton.
Elizabethtown won the toss in overtime and opted to go on defense first. Mechanicsburg RB Parker Sample carried on the first play down to the 4-yd line, but an Elizabethtown personal foul moved the ball to the two. On the ensuing play, Seth Brubaker went straight up the middle behind Center Ben Grill for the score.
Elizabethtown QB Jeff Rudy’s final pass sailed high, setting off a celebration for the Wildcats.
