RB Taylor Shearer carries for the Wildcats.

On a beautiful evening at Susquehanna Township’s Roscoe Warner Field, the Mechanicsburg Wildcats once again opened an early lead and cruised to victory in a Mid-Penn Colonial matchup with the Susquehanna Township Indians.

Mechanicsburg rolled up 426 yards of offense behind the passing of Micah Brubaker (15/19, 214 yards, 3 touchdowns) and a running attack that accounted for another 212 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Susquehanna Township put up 326 yards of offense. QB Donald Leach threw for 90 yards, RB Brandon Awkward rushed for 70 yards and Nas’zair Porter-Bellamy added another 61 yards on the ground for the Indians.

Turnovers were the key to the game with Susquehanna Township handing the ball over 5 times to the Wildcats – all interceptions.  Mechanicsburg committed no turnovers.

Mechanicsburg started off the scoring after the first of the Indian’s turnovers with a 6-yard run.  Nicholas Morrison, returning after missing two weeks with mononucleosis, kicked the extra point to put the Wildcats up 7-0. Taylor Shearer then added a 1-yard run to make it 14-0 after the first quarter.

Mechanicsburg Senior Wide Receiver Caleb Brubaker then added two touchdowns (17 yards, 16 yards) in the 2nd frame, and with one missed extra point, put the Wildcats up 27-0 at the break.

The Wildcats weren’t done there.  In the 3rd quarter, Micah Brubaker hit Senior WR James Anderson in stride for a 75-yard touchdown.  The two-point conversion failed and the score was 33-0.

RB Glenn Robinson added a touchdown in the 4th to put Mechanicsburg up 40-0 in the 4th and started the running clock.

Susquehanna Township RB Brandon Awkward scored from 1-yard out, late in the 4th to make the final score 40-7.

Next week Susquehanna Township travels to Northern York, and Mechanicsburg is at home against Waynesboro.
