Micah Brubaker and the Mechanicsburg Wildcats traveled to Shippensburg’s Veterans Stadium on Friday night to take on the Greyhounds. While the final score was 35-20, Mechanicsburg put up all their points before the break to go up 35-0. Shippensburg scored all 20 of their points in the fourth quarter against the Wildcats underclassmen.
Brubaker, a senior quarterback, was 7 of 9 passing for 117 yards and two touchdowns, and added 12 carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns for Mechanicsburg. RB Taylor Shearer added another 73 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown. Zack Manning was 7-17 passing for 84 yards, and Nathan Beam and Brett Jones scored for Shippensburg.
Mechanicsburg marched down the field on their opening drive, scoring on a 5-yard touchdown run by Taylor Shearer, to go up 7-0.
On their next possession, Mechanicsburg move quickly down the field and scored on a 5-yard run by Brubaker. After missing the extra point, the score was 13-0.
James Anderson (3 catches for 55 yards) then caught the first of his two touchdowns on the night, an 18-yard strike from Brubaker. Caleb Brubaker (3 catches, 57 yards) ran the ball in for the two-point conversion.
In the 2nd, Senior DE Tyree Morris tipped a ball in to the air and intercepted. He returned the interception inside the ten yard-line, and Micah Brubaker ran the ball in to the end zone to put the Cats up 28-0.
Mechanicsburg capped its scoring with a 34-yard pass from Brubaker to Anderson. Mechanicsburg led Shippensburg 35-0 at the half. This capped the night for both Brubakers and Taylor Shearer – none of whom played in the 2nd half.
With a running clock, Shippensburg opened their scoring in the 4th quarter on a 29-yard run by Nathan Beam, to make it 35-7. Brett Jones added a 6-yard run, and with a mixed extra point the score was 35-13.
The Greyhounds capped the scoring with a 68-yard punt return touchdown, to end the night at 35-20.
