The 19th annual Tri-County All-Star game was played Friday night in a driving rain storm at Manheim Central’s Rettew Stadium. It featured rosters from the top players of the Lancaster-Lebanon League and Palmyra High School. The teams were broken down into a North Team and a South Team. In a game that featured tons of big plays the North was able to pull away in the second half after taking a lead of 21-12 at the half. The North scored three touchdowns and a field goal in the second half to prevail 45-12 over the South Team.

“It felt great to get a group of kids and come together in 2 weeks time and play as one as best you can and to come out and play like they did and I feel like we accomplished something” Dave Hahn Manheim Central Head Coach and the North’s Head Coach.

Jesse Martin of Garden spot opened up the scoring for the South team early in the 1st Quarter with a 2-yard scamper from his QB position, but a missed extra point made it 6-0. The South team got a short field from a short punt by the North squad.

Isaiah Rodriguez of Lebanon responded with a 47-yard touchdown pass to former teammate WR Alex Ruff, the extra point was good.  North took the lead 7-6.

After a defensive stop, North then added to their lead with a 2 yard run by Tanner Hess of Hempfield. The extra point was good for a 14-6 lead with 10:37 left in the 2nd Qaurter.

The South then responded with a fake punt a nifty option play from Carson Nash of Cocalico to Mason St. Clair for a 1st down. Then Nash hit Adam Martin of Warwick for a 40 yard TD Pass with 4:35 left in 2nd QT. The extra point was blocked so the North maintained a 14-12 lead.

The North responded again with a TD pass from Braden Bohannon of Elco with a TD pass to David Almodovar-Cora for 18 yards with 1:34 left in the 1st half. The extra point was good. The North lead 21-12. The drive was largely set up by several runs by Bohannon.

The second half picked up with the North team scoring on a 20 yard TD pass from Bohannon of Elco to Clancy of Township at the 9:33 mark of the 3rd Quarter, which extended the lead to 28-12 for the north. The drive was set up by an excellent punt return by Jadin Jimenez of Hempfield.

The North continued the scoring with a deep ball from Rodriguez a 52-yard pass to Dan Engle of Township to take a commanding lead of 35-12. It was a beautiful deep ball by Rodiguez down the left sideline.

“Isaiah Rodriguez has a big arm and thats his thing and he can throw it well” Hahn said.

On the next drive, the North extended the lead 38-12 with a 23-yard field goal by Logan Shull of Manheim Central with 2:53 left in the 3rd quarter.

The last score of the evening was Cade Clancy of Township with a 1 yard run with 7:16 left in the game for the North squad. That extended the final score to 45-12 lead for the North Team.

Bohannon was the MVP for the North team. He has several long runs through out the night on designed runs and scrambles when no one was open down field. He is a dyanamic runner who showed it all night from the QB position. He also threw 2 Touchdown passes as well. Showing a great touch on the ball.

“It was a combination of everything are Oline did a good job giving us some time to air it out deep and Braden had another dynamic that kid is special he is going to do a heck of a job at Lebanon Valley College, that kid can run it he has knack for finding the whole and he can also spin it. For a kid who didnt throw it a ton for his High School team not that he couldn’t they just didn’t he showed tonight I can throw it to and he did” Hahn talking about his QB Bohannon

Both Rodriguez with his 2 TDs and Bohannan with his 2 TDs showed they both could throw the ball very well, even in the pouring rain both players along with there Wide Receivers showed an ability to connect with the passing game. The Offensive Line also did a nice job protecting both QBs.
