Today Temple football got better with a verbal commitment from Wilson (West Lawn) OT/DE Ryan Silvious. The Senior is in his first season as a starter at Left Tackle and is a part of the Bulldogs rotation along the Defensive Line. His size – 6’5″ and 252 lbs – and passion for the game caught the eyes of the Temple staff, who offered Silvious a preferred walk-on spot on the Owls on September 6th. Silvious accepted today. He missed Wilson’s game on Friday against Penn Manor, which the Bulldogs won 44-0, with a leg injury. You can see Ryan’s film from his first four games here.

We caught up with Ryan and asked him about his decision:

WPA: why did you choose the Owls?

Ryan: I’ve wanted to play for Temple since the day I walked into the facilities, it was just a perfect fit right away.

WPA: who was your biggest influence at Temple, who recruited you?

Ryan: Reggie Garrett, the Director of Player Personnel, is the main guy who handled my recruitment. He’s a great, personable guy who really relates well to recruits.

WPA: what do your parents think of your decision?

Ryan: My dad fully supports my decision, he said at the end of the day it’s what’s best for me.

WPA: what are they getting in player like you?

Ryan: Temple is getting a player that’s tough, always hungry for more and never complacent, ready to work and earn everything and is cool in a leadership position.

WPA: what position will you play?

Ryan: Not really sure what position I will play. My frame allows for a lot of wiggle room whether they want to keep me on the OL or maybe even play TE or DL.

WPA: why commit early?

Ryan: I just didn’t think there was any sense in waiting if I had my heart set on where I want to go to school.

WPA: what was the recruiting process like for you?

Ryan: The recruiting process was an amazing experience, but it can also be very stressful. It’s cool visiting schools and having them roll out the red carpet for you, but also hard because you don’t really know what each school wants and is looking for.

WPA: Do you know what you’d like to study?

Ryan: Yes, I’d like to major in Sports Management and minor in Marketing.

WPA: What do you think is the most exciting thing about Temple?

Ryan: I think the most exciting thing about Temple is that it is in Philly. Philly is a great city with an unbeatable sports atmosphere and so many different cultures to experience.

WPA: How will this affect your play for your senior season?

Ryan: I think this will affect my senior season going forward because I can focus solely on Wilson Football and not worry about my recruitment anymore. I also think that this will add some confidence to my game and help me play better.
