He’s been, in our opinion, one of the most under recruited players in Pennsylvania. His accolades are an arm long list. Entering his senior season Machalik has accumulated 4,526 passing yards and 49 td passes. His career rushing and passing totals have him at 7,732 yards and 89 td’s. Matt didn’t get his first offer until late May, and that offer came from the team he committed to, Lehigh. Navy and Lafayette also jumped in, but it was Lehigh that captured the All-State Bomber. He made his announcement late last night on twitter.

We caught up with Matt to ask him about his choice.
PFN: Why did you choose to commit to Lehigh before your senior season?
I chose to commit to Lehigh before my senior season because it gives me the ability to take a lot of weight off my shoulders and I get to just play without having to worry about the recruitment process. I also chose them because they are a great fit for me and I developed a really good relationship with the coaching staff!
PFN: Who was your biggest influence there, who recruited you?
All of the coaches were a big influence to me there. Coach Hunt and Coach McMaster did a great job recruiting me!
PFN: What are they getting in player like you?
They are getting a hard worker and a very coachable player! They are getting a leader and a player that will do whatever it takes to make the team better and get a win.
PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?
The recruiting process was very slow at times and then it would pick up out of nowhere. It was great to talk to new coaches and build different relationships with them. I enjoyed it a lot.
PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?
I’m thinking I would like to study business but I’m not too sure yet.
PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?
My parents supported me throughout the whole process! They were great and they let the decision up to me and I’m thankful to have them because they took me all over to visit different schools.
PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the program?
The thing I think is most exciting about the program is that they have a new coaching staff who are great people and I’m excited to be coached up by them. Another exciting thing is playing in the oldest rivalry against Lafayette.
PFN: What are you most looking forward to while playing for them?
I’m looking forward to play in the oldest rivalry in college football. And also playing in a very good conference in the patriot league!
PFN: Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:
They would never know that I’m actually a decent golfer.
PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?
My whole family definitely influenced me. But if I had to choose one I would definitely say it was my dad. He played college football and he would just tell me stories about it and him and I would always play whether it was in the house or the backyard. I enjoy talking about football with every moment we get.
Why do you play football?
I play football because I love the game and I love the relationships you build off of football. It’s a family that you create when playing for your team and I just love always being apart of that.
What would you do to improve the recruiting process?
I honestly wouldn’t do anything I am happy where I ended up.
PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?
I don’t think I would have a hard time saying anything. But one thing I would say is that I thank everyone of my teammates who made me better and helped me get to where I am today. My family and friends who supported me throughout this whole process and with my decision. Also my coaches for always coaching me up and fixing my mistakes to become a better person and player on and off the field
