On September 6, 2019, the Dallastown Wildcats played the Penn Manor Comets at Penn Manor High School. The Comets began the game with two successful passes to #2 senior Josh Gibson and #21 senior Logan Legenstein. Only a few minutes into the game, Penn Manor received a flag for holding. A few seconds later, Penn Manor’s junior #17 Kyle Murr and senior #7 Aaron Gale blocked a pass by Dallastown. After Dallastown received a flag, another pass was blocked by #2 Gibson.

With 6:51 left in the first quarter, the Comets received the first touchdown of the game. The touchdown was completed by junior #6 Isaiah Stoltzfus. In the play immediately after the touchdown, Dallastown scored a touchdown to lead the game 7-6.

After a flag on the play that negated a potential touchdown for the Comets, Dallastown scores a touchdown and ends the first quarter 13-6. Jon Boxleitner, one of the Penn Manor middle school coaches, commented on the Comet’s flag saying the game review showed no flag and the negated touchdown was incorrect and ‘costed Penn Manor the game.’

The second quarter began slowly with no touchdowns in the first half. Penn Manor had an impressive tackle on Dallastown by #2 Gibson and a pass to #7 Gale, but Dallastown gained the initiative with a field goal. With only 0:19 seconds left in the quarter, Dallastown scored another touchdown and left the score 23-6 to start the third quarter.

The third quarter began with a sack by PM junior #45 Colt Barley. Penn Manor’s junior #10 Max Jesberger and #17 Murr also knocked Dallastown’s ball out of bounds. After a blocked pass by Dallastown, Penn Manor received another flag for holding. A sack by #10 Jesberger and an interception resulted in Penn Manor’s possession of the ball. Gibson got the comets another touchdown with 1:13 left in the third quarter. The fourth quarter would begin with Dallastown leading 23-13.

Early in the fourth quarter, another flag was thrown for interference by Dallastown. Successful passes were made to #6 Stoltzfus and and senior #44 Jared Musser. With 7:08 left in the game, a successful pass to #17 Murr gained the Comets another touchdown. With the extra point scored by #7 Gale, the score was 20-23.

With Comet’s #3 Luke Braas sacked with 3:40 left in the game, Dallastown gained possession of the ball. After another flag on Dallastown with 0:09 seconds left in the game, Dallastown ran out the remainder of the clock and won 23-20.

The theme for Penn Manor’s student section for the game was purple in honor of Penn Manor Football alum Jamal McCaskell’s sudden death in June. McCaskell suffered from Lupus, an autoimmune disease that involves the body attacking its own immune system and organs. Four years after his diagnosis, McCaskell passed away at the age of 21.
