Penn Manor at Elizabethtown

On October 11, 2019, the Penn Manor Comets faced the Elizabethtown Bears. The game began with a touchdown by Penn Manor four minutes into the quarter. The extra point was missed making the beginning score 6-0. Soon after this, Penn Manor received a flag for holding. The first quarter continued slowly with struggles on both sides. With two incomplete passes in a row by PM, Elizabethtown received the ball with 5:55 left in the quarter.

Penn Manor junior Kyle Murr had an impressive tackle on Elizabethtown, which gave PM the ball again. Penn Manor continued the play with a hand off and carry by PM junior Isaiah Stoltzfus. In the last minute of the quarter, PM intercepted the ball. The play was negated due to a flag on PM for pass interference. The quarter ended with PM senior Josh Gibson tackling Elizabethtown.

The second quarter began with an incomplete pass by Elizabethtown. The pass was blocked by PM senior Logan Legenstein. Once Penn Manor received control of the ball, a complete pass to Gibson got them the first down. After Stoltzfus caught the ball and ran 15 yards, PM received a flag on the play for holding. Legenstein got PM two more successful passes, but Elizabethtown regained control of the ball.

Penn Manor made two impressive plays by junior Hunter Hoffman and senior Nick Baker from tackles on Elizabethtown. Penn Manor received another flag which resulted in Elizabethtown’s possession of the ball. In the next few plays, Elizabethtown had two incomplete passes in a row. One of the passes was blocked by PM senior Aaron Gale. In a final effort to get the first down, Elizabethtown’s play was stopped by junior Ben Weaver.

Later in the quarter, Murr intercepted Elizabethtown’s ball. A few minutes later, PM got a touchdown from Murr catching the ball in the endzone. After a failed two point conversion, the score was 12-0.

In the next play, PM regained control of the ball after an interception by Gale at the 36 yard line. Kyle Murr again caught the ball and got PM a touchdown. Another failed two-point conversion left the score 18-0.

Elizabethtown got control of the ball again but it was quickly turned back over to Penn Manor. Murr ran the ball in for a touchdown from the 41 yard line with 0:16 left in the quarter. Penn Manor attempted another two point conversion, but the failed attempt made the score 24-0. In the last few seconds of the game, Elizabethtown ran to the endzone for a touchdown after being punted the ball. With no extra point, the first half of the game ended with the score 24-6.

The second half of the game began with a hand off to Elizabethtown that was stopped by Nick Baker. After Elizabethtown blocked Penn Manor’s pass, Stoltzfus ran the ball in for a touchdown from the 37 yard line. Due to a flag on PM, the touchdown was negated.

Elizabethtown received the ball after this play, but they were tackled by Baker. After PM received another flag, Elizabethtown got the first down. After an incomplete pass and sack by senior Jared Musser, the comets regained control of the ball. Penn Manor continued the play with a successful pass to Gale and hand off to Stoltzfus.

Penn Manor received another touchdown after Murr caught the 38 yard pass in the end zone. With 4:39 left in the quarter, Penn Manor got the extra point which made the score 31-6.

The final quarter of the game began with a tackle on Elizabethtown by Stoltzfus. After Penn Manor got control of the ball, a pass to Gibson got the comets a first down. Penn Manor soon got another flag for an illegal shift. Gibson quickly got the comets another touchdown by running the ball into the endzone with 9:32 left in the game. With no successful extra point, the score was 37-6.

After Elizabethtown regained control of the ball, the play was stopped by junior Isaac Hostetter. The comets got the ball with 0:26 left in the game. The game ended when Penn Manor took a knee.

During the 2018 football season, Penn Manor lost to Elizabethtown 52-17 making Penn Manor’s win very impressive. The next Penn Manor football game is October 18th, 2019 against Hempfield.
