At the football game on August 30th, 2019, the Penn Manor comets faced the Lampeter Strasburg pioneers. After a first quarter that resulted in no points scored, the game was at an even 0-0 starting in the second quarter. At this point, it was still anybody’s game.

The first major play in the second quarter left the pioneers ahead 7-0 after a touchdown with 11:35 left in the game. Only minutes after this play, LS heightens the intensity of the game with another touchdown with 8:59 left in the second quarter. At this point, the comets are trailing the pioneers 0-14.

After the comets start to gain some initiative in the game, LS makes an impressive play with an interception and touchdown only one minute after the previous touchdown. The comets struggle to get a point but hold their own against LS’s impressive offense. The rest of the quarter continues on with no points until the last minute when the pioneers score another touchdown. This leaves the score 28-0 for the comets in the third quarter of the game.

The comets begin the third quarter with some promising plays, but the initiative is lost when the quarterback is tackled on the third down with 9:19 left in the quarter. After another impressive interception by LS #44 B. Cole, the pioneers score another touchdown on the comets with five minutes in the game remaining. The beginning of the fourth quarter leaves the score with the pioneers winning 35-0.

After a fourth quarter with no points scored, LS wins 35-0. Even though LS’s quarterback, #10 Sean McTaggart, is out with an injury, LS impressively defeats the Penn Manor comets. Last year, LS defeated Penn Manor 42-0.

According to PM junior #5 Isaiah Stoltzfus, he feels more confident about the home game coming up August 6th at 7:00 against Dallastown. He thinks the loss of the LS game was from a “lack of discipline” and “poor execution.” He believes that the team is going into their next game with a better attitude and preparedness. Stoltzfus also mentions that the varsity coach, John Brubaker, plans on amping up the upcoming practices and making a more intense setting for the players to increase their skills.
