Penn Manor Football at Conestoga Valley

On Friday August 23rd, the Penn Manor Comets football team faced the Conestoga Valley Buckskins for the first game of the season. The game commenced with a slow first quarter that ended in a 0-0 tie between the teams.

By the second quarter, the game heated up with the first touchdown of the game by the Penn Manor Comets. The touchdown was completed by senior #21 Logan Legenstein and thrown by quarterback junior #3 Luke Braas. The extra point was scored by senior #7 Aaron Gale. With nine minutes left in the second quarter, Conestoga Valley evened the score 7-7. After a fumble by Conestoga Valley halfway through the quarter, Penn Manor gained some initiative and moved the score to 13-7. The touchdown was completed by senior #2 Josh Gibson with 2:53 left in the quarter. The quarter concluded with a Penn Manor lead 13-7 and an interception by Gibson.

After the Penn Manor marching unit performed their halftime production of ‘Beautiful Mind,’ Conestoga Valley started the third quarter with possession of the ball. Penn Manor’s defensive line picked up with a sack from junior #10 Max Jesberger with 4:57 remaining in the third quarter. The third quarter finished with a touchdown by Conestoga Valley with the extra point blocked by Gibson.

After two minor injuries on Penn Manor, PM scored a touchdown with 10:34 left in the beginning of the fourth quarter. The touchdown was completed by junior #12 Isaac Hostetter. The extra point was missed by PM leaving the score 19-13. Penn Manor continued a strong defense in the fourth quarter with a fumble by Conestoga Valley and a sack on the Conestoga Valley quarterback by senior #44 Jared Musser with 8:34 left in the game. With 3:55 left in the fourth quarter, CV had another fumble recovered by CV senior #8 Bradley Stoltzfus.

The game ended with a surprising win by Penn Manor 19-13 considering CV beat PM 31-13 the 2018-2019 football season. Penn Manor’s next game will be held at Lampeter Strasburg on August 30th at 7:00.
