This week’s edition of Dan’s Double Down:

Games of the Week:
FRIDAY 7PM
Jim Thorpe Olympians-(1-1) at North Schuylkill Spartans-(2-0) at Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium
Last Meeting: 2020 – Spartans won 36 to 0.
The Spartans enter this game winners of 14 straight Schuylkill League regular season games dating back to October 5th, 2018 when they lost to Tamaqua. Jim Thorpe enters the game winners last week over Palmerton 17 to 14, the Spartans were victorious 21 to 14 over Blue Mountain. Last Friday however, the Spartans lost their senior starting QB Jake Hall for the rest of the game after suffering an injury in the first quarter, eventually sitting out the rest of the game. I spoke quickly with Coach Hall, later that night via Twitter, and was notified that Jake was doing good, and will be okay, so my take was, he will be back in action this Friday night against the Olympians. North Schuylkill is 4-1 the last 5 games against Jim Thorpe, with the lone loss coming back in 2017 42 to 18. Jim Thorpe struggled in their season opener against Blue Mountain, and last week getting the win proves that the Olympians keep improving. The Spartans however are loaded, lead by as stated earlier, senior QB Jake Hall, RB Josh Chowansky, and many more.
PREDICTION: I don’t see much change in this year’s outcome for the Spartans barring any injuries or illness, take down the Olympians 42 to 14 !

FRIDAY 7PM
Conwell-Egan Catholic Eagles-(2-0) at Nativity BVM Green Wave-(1-1) at St. Clair Veterans Memorial Stadium
Last Meeting: N/A
The Eagles come into the game averaging 25.5 points a game, giving up just 10 a game, while the Green Wave have put up decent average 37 points a game on offense however, give up a whopping 31.5 a game on defense. The last couple years haven’t been so good for Conwell-Egan going 4-12 but this 2021 team seems to pretty solid all around. Meanwhile, Nativity has recorded 4 straight winning season, posting a record of 27-17.
PREDICTION: I believe the Green Wave are just heating up after losing their season opener, and will defeat the Eagles 31 to 27 !
——————————————————————————————————–

Schuylkill League teams HOME Games of Interest Include:
*All Friday games scheduled for 7pm*

Bangor Slaters-(2-0) at Blue Mountain Eagles-(1-1) at The Eagles Nest
Last Meeting: N/A
According to the files I have on hand, and media sources used, this is the first time these two schools will have met. Bangor comes into the game averaging an astounding 44.5 points a game, giving up just 3.5 the first two weeks of football. The Eagles return home where they won their season opener for rookie HC Tom Gallagher over Jim Thorpe 30 to 20. Blue Mountain comes into the game averaging 22 points a game, giving up 20.5 a game. This results from this one will definitely confirm if or not Bangor is a contender in my opinion. Blue Mountain has definitely played the much tougher competition thus far. therefore…
PREDICTION: Eagles rise above, and come out on top 35 to 21 !

Saucon Valley Panthers-(1-1) at Pottsville Area Crimson Tide-(1-1) at Veterans Memorial Stadium
Last Meeting: 2016 – District XI Playoff Saucon Valley won 27 to 26.
Saucon Valley comes into this game winners of their last game 31 to 14, while Pottsville comes in following a loss to Wyomissing 42 to 14. Panthers are averaging 25.5. points per game, giving up 30.5 a game defensively and the Tide average 13 a game, giving up 21 a game. Offensively for the Panthers, average 326 yards a game lead by their QB Dante Mahaffey with 235 yards a game. Pottsville moves the ball pretty good themselves with 243 yards a game, also lead by their QB Jazce Carrabello-Snowell with 107 yards/game through the air, and RB Travontai Davis with 79 yards/game. If Pottsville can keep the Panthers QB in check, the Tide can pull out the victory at home.
PREDICTION: Pottsville rebounds in a close one… 34 to 28 !

Wilson Area Warriors-(2-0) at Lehighton Indians-(1-1) at Lehighton’s Multi-Purpose Stadium
Last Meeting: 1983 – Lehighton winning 35 to 6 according to our sources.
Wilson comes into the contest huge winners their first two games averaging 47 points per game, giving up 14 total, to Pen Argyl in their season opener. Like Blue Mountain, Lehighton comes into the game, having played tougher competition thus far, coming out with a 1-1 record, scoring an average of 34 points a game, but giving up 44 a game. That said, I still believe the Indians offense will keep stride and pull out the victory.
PREDICTION: Indians in a wild one, 33 to 31 !

Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes-(1-1) at Williams Valley Vikings-(2-0) at Stauffenberg Field at Viking Stadium
Last Meeting: 2020 – Williams Valley won 22 to 7.
In past years, this game would have been definitely a Game of the Week type match-up, but this year is much different as both teams are somewhat struggling to find their offensive stride. Williams Valley however did find some offense last week scoring 26 points against Pine Grove. The Hurricanes on the other hand, gave up 24 points to their opponent while scoring just 13 in the loss. The Vikings on offense are averaging just 16 a game, their defense has only given up 7 a game. Haven ironically, score just a point better than the Vikings on offense averaging 17 a game, they are giving up an average of 15 points a game on defense. Last time these two have met was last season with the Vikings coming out on top 22 to 7. I feel this year won’t be much different other than somewhat closer.
PREDICTION: Williams Valley pulls away in the end… 27 to 17 !

Remaining Games:

Tri-Valley Bulldogs-(2-0) at Pine Grove Cardinals-(0-2) at Cardinal Stadium
Last Meeting: 2019 – Tri-Valley won 34 to 7.
Pine Grove scores 10.5 points/game, give up 19.5/game, while Tri-Valley scores 34 points/game, gives up 3.5/game.
PREDICTION: Bulldogs score early…. alot, win 41 to 16 !

Northern Lehigh Bulldogs-(1-1) at Tamaqua Area Blue Raiders-(0-2) at Tamaqua Area School District Stadium
Last Meeting: N/A according our sources
If the Bulldogs play like they did against Northwestern Lehigh, we will be looking at another shootout for Northern Lehigh.
PREDICTION: Bulldogs offense too much for the Blue Raiders, Northern Lehigh wins 42 to 28 !

Hamburg Hawks-(2-0) at Mahanoy Area Golden Bears-(0-2) at Alumni Stadium
Last Meeting: 2019 – Golden Bears won 36 to 28 !
Mahanoy Area running game gains some ground, and gets first points of the season, but in the end…
PREDICTION: Hawks fly above the Bears and win 35 to 13 !

Minersville Battlin’ Miners-(1-1) at Shenandoah Valley Blue Devils-(0-1) at Shenandoah Veterans Memorial Stadium
Last Meeting: Minersville won 38 to 6 !
Jared Graeff of Minersville will be the key to victory for the Battlin’ Miners, QB and WR for the Blue Devils.
PREDICTION: Blue Devils offense improving each week but, Minersville wins 41 to 27 !

That concludes this week’s edition of Dan’s Double Down for PFN’S Week-2 Schuylkill/Colonial League Schedule.
