40 yards. 8 seconds. Trailing by 2. The Rollers didn’t panic…..let’s back that up. 2:25 left. Rollers on their own 31. Kayden Cole Stephens led the Rollers on a drive like no other this day, until that 8 second mark. A penalty free, positive every play drive. Then on the Juniata 35, they made a mistake they’d made all game. False start. No panic. Stephens took the snap, looked left and fired with confidence. And for the second time on the night, Silas Hernandez took the ball into the endzone. The clock rolled 00:00 and the Rollers walked off with the 18-14 win.
Hernandez had seven receptions for 102 yards and two interceptions. That’s quite a night for a sophomore. “Juniata beat us last year and I think that encouraged us to want to beat them this year.
Juniata star Jasper Shepps got the scoring moving with an interception of Stephens and on the very next play he hauled in a 76 yard td pass from Jason Condo. The Rollers responded with a 40 yard td pass from Stephens but they missed the point after keeping the score 7-6.
Midway through the third Josh Nace hauled in a 27 yard td to put the visitors up 14-6. They were unable to keep possession of the ball to run off any time and with 4:19 left Ni’Shaun Ward-McMullen got the Rollers within 2.
