Monday- a day normally reserved for Junior Varsity games, State College Area High School and Carlisle High School varsities played a game postponed from Friday night. As weird as playing on a Monday was both teams were facing the weather- which always makes a good game. The intermittent showers mixed with Carlisle’s grass field made a perfect storm of slip and slide like sidelines and a jersey wrecking field.

Scoring in this game started early, with Sammy Knipe running the opening kick for a 97-yard touchdown with Spitler’s kick just 17 seconds into the game. After the kick, Carlisle slowly ran sweeps, draws, and dives straight down State Highs throat. Eventually punching the ball in from the 2 but missing the kick. Just a few minutes into the game it was 7-6 State still leads but the pressure is on. With the ball for the first time, this game State High was able to show off what had been a focus in practice all week- that being the passing offense. With 6:35 left in the first quarter that passing attack would make its self known. State Highs QB Conrad Moore dropped back and lobbed the ball over a defender and into the hands of Jashaun Green’s. With the perfect PAT it was 14-6 and up to the State defense to put this away early. However, they were not able to as Carlisle would once again run right by defenders on consistent 5-yard gains. State High would give up another rushing touchdown in the red zone as Carlisle even went for 2 rushing the ball, that tied up the game at 14. This scoring ended the first quarter now tied.

That would soon change as 2 minutes into the 2nd quarter Conrad Moore would call his own number on a 3-yard keeper for the touchdown. The kick was again perfect putting State High ahead 21-14 but as you can probably tell at this point that would soon change. The Carlisle rushing attack still imposing its will marching down the field before a 1-yard touchdown run tied this game again now at 21-21. That score would remain as both teams would leave the field for halftime.

Scoring slowed down in the 3rd not being till 5:11 left in the quarter that Conrad Moore kept the ball for a 7-yard run. WIth Spitler’s kick State was up late in the 3rd 28-21. Just under 4 minutes later with 1:16 remaining in the quarter, Moore would find Jashaun Green for his second touchdown catch of the night on a beautiful goal line fade. The State defense was able to continue imposing its will finally in the second half slowing the rushing attack. After an uneventful beginning to the fourth quarter at 6:53 left in the game, Aiden Spitler was able to keep his 100% in kicks made for the game as he made the field goal. His kick made it 38-21 State leads. Carlisle would score again with a two-point ending this game State High 38 Carlisle 21.

Looking towards Friday (feels really strange not saying next week doesn’t it?)  State High has Altoona and Carlisle has Cedar Cliff.
