State High Little Lions soar past the Cumberland Valley Eagles

As I highlighted last week State Highs season thus far was full of questions. A big one was if there would be a senior night in newly renovated Memorial Field sporting the new uniforms. The team got just that. A night not only honoring the graduating seniors but a night honoring long time coach Dirk Grissinger who will retire at the end of the season.

The game started out quick after State High received the ball in the opening kick off. Following a short return, the offense took the field… and instantly was in command as QB Conrad Moore took a keeper straight up the middle blowing by every Eagle. Scoring just 14 seconds in. After Spitler’s kick was good the Eagles were already down by 7. After many uneventful drives from both teams as the 1st quarter continued. The Little Lions ground game would strike once again when Nehemiah Howell took a Halfback Dive for the second 40+ yard TD run of the night. The Eagles center of the defense was being tested. After the long run and another good kick from Spitler, it was now 14-0 State lead with 2:30 left in the first quarter.

It wouldn’t be long before State once again lit up the scoreboard when with 9:45 in the second quarter Sam Knipe would be targeted on a wheel out the backfield where he would bobble a catch before securing it and blowing by the linebacker and safety who’s responsibilities were to cover him. Sams big play and Spitler’s kick made it 21-0. The next drive when State had the ball they took a little time to drive down to the red zone where the CV defense was able to stop them. But coach Lintal turned to the reliable leg of kicker Aiden Spitler who made the chip shot field goal furthering States lead to 24-0 with 5:14 left in the first half.

4 minutes into the 3rd quarter we once again heard QB Conrad Moore’s name as he took another dive for a 40+ yard rushing touchdown making it 2 for him in just last night’s game. With the kick good it was 31-0 with 8:54 remaining in the 3rd. State High would not score again after this as many younger players got there shot on a Friday night. Putting in young QB Jack Morris who would throw a pick right away before calming down. CV left many starters in against States 2nd and 3rd string defenses and was still not able to get anything going. The game would remain otherwise uneventful with the final score of 31-0.

Looking at next week SCAHS Little Lions will travel to take on Carlisle and the CVHS Eagles will take on Bishop McDevitt
