Friday night lights have returned to Roscoe Warner field and in thrilling fashion. Susquehanna Township kicked off their home opener on a high note, beating Boiling Springs 61-10.

Susquehanna went out of the gate hot, with Jarett Kern reaching the endzone through a 13 yard catch just over two minutes into the first quarter, followed by a failed extra point due to a bad snap. After multiple unsuccessful possessions by both teams, Boiling Springs cut the lead to four after nailing a 34-yard field goal, with five and a half minutes remaining in the first.

On the kickoff following that field goal, Susquehanna Townships Rakhi Seville ran back a 75-yard kick return to the endzone, however a penalty erased that score and left the Indians on the 15. Despite the penalty Seville reached the endzone just two plays later off of an 8-yard run, putting the Indians up 14-3 after a successful 2-point conversion. This would end up being the score till the end of the first quarter.

As the second quarter began Susquehanna came out swinging once again, scoring a 37-yard passing touchdown in less than a minute to increase the score to 21-3. This was then followed by an amazing interception made by Zimere Martin on what would have likely been a scoring drive for the Bubblers. This eventually led to another Indians touchdown due to a 1-yard score from the Junior running back Jayden Riley making the score 28-3.

With about five minutes left in the half, and another punt from Boiling Springs, Susquehanna Township would get the ball at midfield with about 5 minutes left. However, they never let up, scoring not just one but two touchdowns before the half. These would come from a 50-yard catch and run between QB Torin Evans and Jarett Kern, along with another huge pass down the field to none other than Lex Cyrus, with just 12 seconds left in the half. One missed extra point would make the score 41-3, leaving Evans with 4 touchdown passes, and two to the running game at halftime.

As Boiling Springs received the ball at the start of the second half, they showed signs of life. Marching right down the field for a touchdown making the score 41-10. However, the Indians refused to back down, scoring another Touchdown shortly after, from a 35-yard touchdown pass to Lex Cyrus, making that his second of the night.

As the fourth quarter began, it seemed both teams were ready to call it a night. After many scoreless possessions, Susquehanna Township was able to score their 8th touchdown of the night off of a 35-yard run by freshman Tyjuan Gault Jr. This was shortly followed by yet another touchdown on the following kickoff due to a fumbled kick return, picked up by Zimere Martin, who also had an interception earlier. After their third failed extra point, the final score would then be sealed at 61-10.

When asked about the game Coach Headen stated that while he was impressed by the offense’s toughness, penalties were a huge problem that must be fixed, with Susquehanna alone having 13 penalties, and four of those resulting in touchdowns being taken off the board. Finally, he praised the effort displayed by the team throughout the game, mentioning Desuan Roman, and Jasani Brown due to their impact on the game from beginning to end.

The Susquehanna Township Indians will travel to play undefeated West Perry next week, while Boiling Springs will face the 1-2 Littlestown Thunderbolts.
