The Susquehanna Township Indians were able to secure a win for their homecoming crowd against the Middletown Blue Raiders, largely due to wide receiver Lex Cyrus who scored the game-winning touchdown on a 50-yard catch and run with under a minute left. The game was then sealed after an interception from Josh Nengite, allowing the Indians to run out the clock, making the final score 21-14.
It was obvious this was going to be a competitive game from the beginning, with both teams playing lockdown defense early, resulting in a scoreless game after the first ten minutes. The first points of the game were found with about two minutes left in the first, through a huge 80-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Nickayus Zenon to put the raiders up 7-0. While many believed this would give the Raiders the momentum needed, the Indians immediately marched right down the field as well, with WR Xavier Rivera reaching the end zone less than two minutes later.
Weather conditions also played a huge role in the game, as the rain caused many to slip or drop passes. These conditions along with the defensive skills being shown, caused another large scoring drought, with no points being added until about a minute left in the third quarter. These points were due to RB Luis Roman off of a 15-yard run, putting the Raiders up 14-7 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Due to the extreme lack of scoring throughout the game, it seemed very unlikely that the Indians would come back from this deficit. However, due to a rushing TD early in the quarter from RB Jayden Riley tying the score at 14-14, along with the last minute hail Mary caught by Cyrus and the game ending interception by Nengite, the Indians ultimately came out victorious.
The Susquehanna Township Indians will travel to face the 4-2 East Pennsboro Panthers, while the Blue Raiders will travel to face the 4-2 Line Mountain Eagles.
