
Taza Sweeney Leads York Suburban to Win Over Susquehannock

GLEN ROCK, PA – York Suburban was able to break their 4-game losing streak and capture a 29-21 win over Susquehannock after a dominant performance by RB Taza Sweeney.
The Trojans received the opening kickoff, but were forced to punt early. The Warriors did the same, giving the ball back to York Suburban, where they took control of the clock and made progress downfield.
Taza Sweeney then found the endzone on a 5 yard rushing touchdown, putting York Suburban up 7 with 1:32 left in the first quarter. The quarter ended at 7-0.
Going into the second, Susquehannock controlled the ball in the first minutes of the quarter. With 8:09 left in the half, Jacob Burns threw a 5 yard passing touchdown to Dylan Lagore, tying the game at 7-7.
The Trojans weren’t done for the half, as Austin Kehr found Gehret Gentzyel downfield, who ran it back for a 36-yard York Suburban touchdown. With the touchdown, the first half ended at 14-7.
York Suburban didn’t give up any ground going into the second half, and after a fumble recovery, the Trojans got the ball back deep in Susquehannock territory.
Taza Sweeney recorded his second touchdown of the night off a 9 yard run putting the Trojans up 20-7 with 11:43 left in the third.
After a battle of the defenses, Susquehannock’s Trevor Odegaard’s found a gap and ran it 29 yards for a touchdown. This made it 20-14, putting Susquehannock back within 6 with 6:11 left in the third. The quarter ended at 20-14.
York Suburban had the ball starting the fourth, however they came up short in the run game. Kicker Jakey Royer came out and made a 27 yard field goal, putting York Suburban’s lead to 23-14 with 10:14 left in the game.
Things weren’t looking good for a possible Warriors comeback, and an interception by York Suburban’s Zephyr Hoffman-Smith in Trojan territory may have sealed it for the Trojans.
Following the interception, Jack Lenzi ran for 45 yards and a York Suburban touchdown, putting them up 29-14 with just 3:26 left in the game.
The Warriors were still not done, and Trevor Odegaard recorded another touchdown, this one 5 yards. The Trojan lead was cut to just 8, however there was only 2:42 left in the game.
York Suburban was forced to punt on the next drive, giving the ball back to Susquehannock with time to score.
But, an interception by York Suburban’ Messiah Martin-Mines put the Trojans in control, and they would be in victory formation for the remainder of the game.
With the win, the Trojan’s record improved to 2-5 (1-3), while Susquehannock fell to 2-5 (0-3), adding to a now 5-game losing streak. The Trojans host Kennard-Dale next Friday, and Susquehannock hosts Eastern York.
