Trinity players celebrating after a 58-27 win over Annville-Cleona

Trinity beat Annville-Cleona Friday night 58-27 to win the PIAA District III 2A State Championship Game. Led by a dominant rushing attack and a stingy defense Trinity dominated all night. Trinity led 10-0 after the 1st Quarter and 38-7 at half in a dominant effort. 2nd Year Head Coach Jordan Hill had this to say after the win “It is a huge stepping stone. We hope this is the pillar going forward. My motto is If we are in it. We win it”. This is Trinity’s 3rd District title for their program.

Trinity opened the scoring when Max Schlager rushes it in from 2 yards out on the opening drive. Trinity continued the scoring with a field goal when John Paukovits hit a 24-yarder to extend the lead to 10-0. Messiah Mickens continued the scoring for Trinity when he rushed for 80 yards touchdown. Suddenly Trinity was dominating with a 17-0 lead. Then Annville-Cleona’s offense got rolling. Cael Harter rushed for a 62-yard touchdown run. Trinity then responded with a touchdown pass from Caleb Wray to Cole Cappawanna and Christian Joy rushed a 70 yard touchdown before the half. Trinity 31-Annville-Cleona 7 at the half. A dominant 1st half effort by Trinity.

In the 2nd Half Trinity continued its dominance when Schlager had 2 rushing touchdowns and Messiah Mickens as well rushed for another touchdown. Annville-Cleona would not let up though. Carl Harter and Phoenix Music both rushed for 2 touchdowns on the night. Annville-Cleona runs a veer offense, so they were able to establish the run game themselves as well.

Trinity has a 3 headed rushing attack with Messiah Mickens, Max Schlager, and Christian Joy all night rotating in at running back. Hill on the running backs “It is really a luxury to have. We have 3 guys who can be starters. They both feed off of number 9 (Schlager). They continue to keep going”.  The offensive line was also dominant on the night. Creating massive holes for the running backs to run through. Hill said “The big guys never get the love. They did an awesome job tonight”. Schlager had this to say about the rotation at running back “We all want us all to succeed and the breaks really helps”.

For Jordan Hill to win a District Title in year two is very impressive. Max Schlager had this to say about winning the District Title “It is amazing. I have never went over .500 in my entire career. I never won anything until my senior year. We haven’t been in here over a decade”. Great accomplishment by Trinity to win a District Title.
