If I told you Twin Valley ran exactly two plays in the entire second quarter you would probably guess that Wyomissing won 28-6. You’d be wrong. The Raiders jumped out to a 7-0 first quarter lead and held the Spartans to two field goals in the second, then poured it on in the second half to get the 28-6 win. Drew Engle ran for 200 yards and 2 tds on 26 carries and Lucas Myers added 74 yards and two tds on 14 carries to lead the way for the Raiders. “There’s a reason he’s a West Point Commit” said Twin Valley Head Coach Brett Myers.
Twin Valley scored on their first possession of the game. After driving 67 yards Lucas Myers punched the ball in from three yards out. The kick gave the Raiders a 7-0 lead with 6:40 left in the first quarter.

Both teams exchanged punts with the Raiders sort of winning that battle pinning the Spartans at their own one yard line. Wyomissing then went on a impressive 15 play drive that culminated in a 32 yard field goal by Keegan Maher making it a 7-3 game with 4:58 left in the first half. On the ensuing kick the ball went out of bounds and Myers refused the penalty making Wyo kick again. That kick was fumbled and the Spartans recovered the ball on the Raiders 43. This time the Spartans drove to the 5 but had to settle for a 22 yard Maher kick bringing Wyo to within a point, 7-6 at the half.

“The head coach made two mistakes. I shouldn’t have asked for a re-kick right? That led to a turnover and three points and on second and seven we should have went deep” said Myers of that second quarter. The second half, however, was a different game. Twin Valley took the opening kick and drove 68 yards where Myers scored his second td from two yards out giving the visiting team a 14-6 lead with 6:43 left in the third quarter. The Raider defense then began to systematically shut down the Spartan offense forcing punts on the next three Wyo possessions and scored on their next 2 of 3 drives. Engle led the way on both scoring drives carrying the ball 5 times for 23 yards following a great defensive performance that gave Twin Valley the ball on the Wyo 21. He scored from 2 yards out. He then carried 8 times for 52 yards with a 10 yard td to close out the scoring.

“Our coaches put together a great defensive plan all week. Our offensive line do a fantastic job. They’re full force the entire game” said Engle of the rushing attack the Spartans had. Twin Valley advances to 8-0 and will face Lampeter-Strasburg next week at home. Wyomissing falls to 7-1 and will play Octorara at home next week.
