Twin Valley saw its season end in the PIAA Class 4A title game tonight at Cumberland Valley’s Chapman Field. Sean Steckert ran all over the Raiders and scored four TDs. The Raiders had no answer to stop the Spartan running game and dropped to 14-1 with the 43-21 loss.

The game itself was close for the first two quarters. It was Twin Valley that struck pay dirt first on their first drive of the game. It was a 5-play, 69-yard drive capped by a 20-yard touchdown run by Lucas Myers. Nathaniel Shaffer hit the point after, giving the Raiders a 7-0 lead just 2 minutes into the game. Southern Lehigh answered with a scoring drive of their own. Starting at the 30, the Spartans actually moved backwards on their first play due to a holding penalty. Steckart negated that with a 10-yard run, ripped off a 46-yard run, then capped the drive with an 11-yard run. The kick tied the score at 7 with 7:07 left in the first quarter.

On their next drive, the Raiders fought back and drove to the Spartan 4-yard line, but a field goal attempt by Shaffer missed the mark. Southern Lehigh took over and moved to the Raider 8, where they kicked a field goal to go up 10-7, but on the ensuing drive, Twin Valley retook the lead with a 64-yard td pass from Maverick Foster to Dom Summers, putting the Raiders back in the lead 14-10 with 2:25 remaining in the second quarter.

However, the Spartans got a nice kick return to the 50, and once again the Raider defense had no answer for Steckert. He put the Spartans back on top with a 26-yard td run to make it a 17-14 lead going into the break. Southern Lehigh never looked back from that point. A 40-yard td pass from Colton Sams to Otto Young extended the Spartan lead, then on the second play of the next Raider drive, a pass from Foster got tipped into the air, and Adam Fritts intercepted the ball on the Twin Valley 31. Southern Lehigh made it 30-14 on another Steckert run. It looked like Twin Valley was on the comeback trail when they drove 88 yards, making it a 9-point game on a Drew Engle run.

Southern Lehigh went on to score two more times in the fourth quarter. “This is nothing to hang our heads about. We’re 14-1 and second best in the state,” said Twin Valley Head Coach Brett Myers. “We didn’t play our best game today, but give those guys a lot of credit. They had something to do with that. In the end, I gotta help our team improve, and I missed that with this one. He’s got good balance, he plays hard,” Myers said about Steckert. “They’re a special group, and there aren’t many teams playing tonight”.
