Trinity defensive tackle Sam Mulbah certainly had plenty of opportunities to play division 1 football after he graduates. UMass, Buffalo, Monmouth, New Hampshire, Richmond, Stony Brook, Gardner Webb, ODU and Albany are among his choices. He also had some pretty good pointers from a pretty good player: Current NY Jet player and older brother Fatorma. Today on X he let the world know his choice:
#AGTG After a great official visit and a great weekend I am 1000% committed to @UMassFootball @coachharasymiak @NyeemWartman @KayWhitaker_ @CoachKeyte @EdOBrienCFB @PaFootballNews @Pa_Preps @RymirVaughn @SportsByBLinder @TheCursiveU @UMassCommand pic.twitter.com/OaWto867Uq

Head Coach Kevin Yarnevich said “Sam is an incredible young man. He leads by example, works tirelessly, and has earned every bit of this opportunity. I couldn’t be happier for him! Watching his journey from freshman year to now has been truly inspiring. His growth, maturity, and unwavering dedication are exactly why he’s in this position today. I can’t wait to see all that he will accomplish—this is just the beginning”!
We caught up with Samuel to find out what went into his decision:
PFN: Why did you choose to commit to UMass before your Sr season?
They made an effort to make me feel at home and part of the family. Coach Wart was the first coach to take a chance on me and ever since then they’ve just been showing a lot of love. I knew after my official visit UMASS was where I wanted to be so I wanted to lock it in, and just focus on my Sr season.
PFN: Who was your biggest influence there, who recruited you?
Coach Wart recruited me and he was my biggest influence there and also Coach Harasymiak. I believe in everything he is building at UMASS.
PFN: What are they getting in player like you?
They are getting a hard worker and someone who puts others before himself. They are getting someone who prides himself on being a good person with high character and morals. I also think I bring a ton of positive energy to a locker room!
PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?
It was stressful but fun at the same time and I appreciate every coach that offered me and toke a chance on me every relationship would be cherish!
PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?
Exercise science
PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?
They played a huge role because obviously Massachusetts it’s 6 hours away from PA so they wanted to make sure I’m in a great learning environment and around a group of men who would make me a better person at the end of the day. If my parents weren’t happy with the atmosphere of the school they wouldn’t have let me commit but they fell In love with UMASS like I did.
PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the program?
The most exciting thing about the program is the opportunity to make history. There is a new coaching staff at UMASS and coach Harasymiak is changing the culture at UMASS and we get to be the first class that he signs.
PFN: What are you most looking forward to while playing for them?
What I am most looking forward to while playing for them is just making an impact when I come into the program next year!
PFN: Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:
I was born in Liberia and moved here in 2014 and I’ve only been playing football for 3 years.
PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?
My older brother Fatorma Mulbah who is currently with the New York jets. And Coach Justin Assadinia who really drove my recruitment and sacrificed time and effort to take me on my recruiting trips.
Why do you play football?
My love for the game and I saw the opportunities that came with football because my brother played at Penn State and WVU. I wanted to make my parents proud by playing football but ultimately fell in love with it.
What would you do to improve the recruiting process?
Find ways to build the best relationships
PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?
I appreciate every one of my teammates and coaches who have helped support me and push me to be my best. I wouldn’t have this opportunity without all of them. Special thanks to Coach Justin Assadinia for driving my recruitment and sacrificing so much to help me secure my future.
