For the Burrs of West Catholic, this season is already starting better than previous years. With their dominant 34-0 win over the Trojans of York Suburban, it marks their first win in a season opener since 2022.

The successes began just 13 seconds and one play into the game, when Sya’mir Jackson caught a short pass from Josiah Everett, then ran it 60 yards for the Burr’s first touchdown of the night. They went for the two point conversion, and on a pass from Everett, Angelo Rossi was able to make it past the Trojan’s defense, making it 8-0 in the blink of an eye. Both teams were forced to punt numerous times throughout the rest of the quarter, and it ended with the Burrs still leading 8-0.

Within 2 minutes, West Catholic already found the back of the endzone from of a 36 yard sprint from Rossi. The Burrs failed the two point try, making it 14-0 with over 10 minutes still left in the first half. The Trojans found minor success on the offensive side of the ball, eventually getting within field goal range, which was attempted but missed. Another stroke of luck hit the Trojans, as West Catholic fumbled the ball in their own 26, but they were not able to produce on offense. West Catholic would light up the scoreboard again with 20 seconds left in the half from another Everett-Rossi connection, this time a 20 yard reception. The conversion failed, ending the first half at 20-0.

With hopes of renewed energy and a positive mindset, the Trojans looked for their time to come back, however ball control and defensive stoppages prevented them from making any progress. At 4 minutes left in the third quarter, West Catholic’s Basir McCoy caught a 13 yard touchdown pass from Everett, and Rossi ran it in for 2. A pair of stops on defense would end the third quarter at 28-0.

The fourth quarter would see much of the same, and the Burrs were able to tally 6 more points from a 15 yard touchdown from Everett to Jackson, the pair’s second touchdown. With just 6 minutes left in the game, neither team would produce anything more, and the final score remained 34-0.

With the win, the Burr’s advance to 1-0 on the season, and travel to Dover High School (DE) on August 30. Falling to 0-1, the Trojans host Bermudian Springs on August 29.
